To ask my neighbours to keep it down a bit

So... My neighbours have a beautiful back garden and it just so happens that our bedroom is also at the back of the house (we live with my MIL which is a strain and a God send so she has the front bedroom) anyway tonight is really hot so we have our windows open and the fan going but my neighbours are in their garden having a piss up (on a Tuesday night so jealous) enjoying the warm weather. It's currently 10pm I have to be up in 7 hours and hubby has to be up in 4. Would it be unreasonable to lean out the window and tell them to shut the fuck up ask them to be quiet?

No, I don't think you would be unreasonable. I love warm weather but hate how people think it's ok to be noisy outside late in the evening. It's a big issue where I live because it's terrace houses with tiny gardens so if someone is outside having a late night piss up it means that no one else can have any sleep even with the windows closed...

I think your suppose to wait until 11pm to complain about noise but completely agree on a Tuesday eve it's bloody annoying!!

That's the same here.. Maybe if I see them in the morning I should mention it? I don't wanna be a party pooper and they are quietening down now.

Maybe grin and bear it tonight but invest in some ear plugs. Bound to come in handy sharing with mil!

You can comlan to the polce after 10pm here if the noise is outside the house in the garden or after 11 if it is inside. No harm in asking nicely.

Is it the first time, it might be a birthday or something. I'd grin and bear it until 11pm and then reconsider my options. 10pm isn't that late (well it is for me on a work night) to some people although a bit odd I suppose during the week.

I don't think you can really complain yet, it's too early unless they're playing music really loud. Normal talking isn't un reasonable though obviously annoying.

You can download a white noise app which might help ?

Ok so feel bad now as they've gone in but I'm wide awake!! FFS!

They aren't normally loud in the week but it's not a birthday or anything cause they are big on celebrations so we would know.

Maybe I'll mention it if I see them.. Kinda passive aggressive and see where that gets me.

If you live with MiL you need to think about the longer term impact that complaining would have on her relationships with her neighbours.

Grin and bare it I think. Maybe they do the same for you when you are being noisy without realising it?!
