reusable nappies - how often do you change them?

I change 4 times a day (as long as baby doesn't poo in between scheduled changes), but I think I could do less......my baby only had a bit of nappy rash once when a newborn and constantly pooing

be interested to know what others do/think

I think it must depend a lot on the type of nappy, as I know we have to change more often with all-in-one styles but we generally do four as well at the following times for DS, who is eleven months now:

10am, 2pm and 6pm Bambino Mio prefolds
10pm two cotton terries folded together with a woollen soaker

All the nappies are almost completely soaked when I change him. I also sit him on the potty for a few minutes at each change so he doesn't have to poo in his nappy and he usually has a big wee then as well so I think I'd need to change once more if I didn't do that.

I think age and weaning makes a huge difference too. Just before DS started on solids he was feeding so much that he seemed able to soak through any nappy in no time.

My DD is 14 now, so our reusable nappies were a long time ago, but I seem to remember 4 would be nothing. I think we'd get through at least 6 = 8 per day.

the washing machine/tumble drier were my best friends!

18 month DD in wonderoos. I change her 4-6 times depending on wetness and unscheduled poos/getting soaked in the sand/water table (bathing dolls is her favourite game just now). They sometimes get a bit whiffy if left longer and not worth risking a leak and therefore total change of clothes. She goes 12 hours overnight though.

Between 6-8 a day, 20 month old.

As a baby roughly every 3-4 hours as nappy feels bulky and heavy by then.

On waking, before lunch, after nap, before teatime then obv into nighttime nappy. Could have been quite relaxed about it.
After she turned 1 she needed changing every 3 hours and def before 4 hours. Iirc it was around the tie she was more mobile and drinking more. stayed that way til potty trained at 2.5yrs

thanks everyone, I know i'm lucky that I don't have to change her much.
Part of my thinks that because she goes 12 hours overnight, it's silly to change her so often in the day, but then I think maybe the only reason she doesn't get a sore bum is because I change 3 times in the day.....in other words, maybe her skin can only stand a prolonged soak once in 24hrs??

During the day: 3-4 nappies.

If it works for you, don't change it.

DrunkenUnicorn · 23/08/2016 09:02

Baby is only 12 weeks, but I change every 2.5/3hours if no poo/ depending on our plans, eg will change nappy that's been on 2 hours of we are about to go out to make it less likely he'll need changing whilst out.

We use a mix of fitted and wraps, Aio and the odd pocket.

Cineraria · 23/08/2016 09:21

I was thinking that about the night nappy too but then I considered how much more he drinks in the day, plus his clothes wouldn't fit over his night nappy; he looks like a weeble in it!

SideOrderofChip · 23/08/2016 09:31

around every 4 hours

Pengweng · 23/08/2016 09:39

I think around 4 nappies in the day and then the over night one.

I used bamboo nappies during the day plus cover and a bamboo with triple soaker and cover for overnight.

Three month old in pockets during the day here. I'd estimate that we change her 6-8 times, but partly because she still poos about five times a day! If she hasn't pooed, I try to change her every 2-3 hours.
