To wonder why Gaviscon tastes so revolting!

Seriously.... Disgusting stuff!

Tried the peppermint liquid and the strawberry chewable tablets- both make me want to vomit.

Anything any better tasting that I can try?

Peptac?

Does it do the same job. I love it.

Nanunanu · 22/08/2016 21:44

You get used to it.... sad but true

Have you tried peptac or kolanticon

80sMum · 22/08/2016 21:44

The pink liquid tastes ok. I think it's aniseed flavour.

Bearfrills · 22/08/2016 21:44

I get horrible reflux and heartburn when pregnancy test and the GP prescribed me omeprazole (?). Can't remember the exact spelling without going and checking the medicine cabinet. Anyway, it's great stuff.

I also had ranitidine in an earlier pregnancy for the same problem, also fab. No foul taste, one pill a day and no heartburn. It even comes in a gold foil wrapper so you feel like you've won a prize.

80sMum · 22/08/2016 21:45

That's pink Gaviscon I mean.

user1471461166 · 22/08/2016 21:45

When pregnant with DD I used to chug the aniseed liquid gaviscon like it was going out of fashion, but if you don't like aniseed it's nasty!

PikachuSayBoo · 22/08/2016 21:45

Meant to be a ? For does it do the same job?

I don't have heartburn or indigestion so not sure but I'm partial to the odd swig of peptac anyway.

Aliveinwanderland · 22/08/2016 21:45

Thanks! Will see if I can get hold of some of those!

9 weeks of pregnancy left hopefully and then hope not to need it anymore!

Captainkanga · 22/08/2016 21:45

Yes! I'm 28 weeks pregnant and I've decided to just live with the heartburn rather than subject myself to that stuff again! 😷

Didn't know they did strawberry tablets though, I'll have to hunt some down just in case I can manage them.

NeedACleverNN · 22/08/2016 21:46

It is gross but yes you do get used to it

I had terrible reflux during pregnancy and was main lining the stuff. The first few gulps was rancid. But when I realised it helped, I couldn't care less

I took the aniseed liquid. I can't stand aniseed but I rather that than reflux

J0kersSmile · 22/08/2016 21:47

I really like the taste of rennie tablets! Gaviscon isn't the same.

Bearfrills · 22/08/2016 21:48

Definitely get the omeprazole. You get it on prescription from your GP and you won't pay for it with your exemption card.

Marmalade85 · 22/08/2016 21:50

I used to drink the stuff when I was pregnant

MrsMozart · 22/08/2016 21:52

I found Ambrosia Creamed Rice worked best...

Though it did pile on some weight and milk blocks the absorption of iron, so ended up with an iron deficiency, but at least I didnt have heartburn/ indigestion SmileHmm

Witchend · 22/08/2016 21:56

The lemon tablets were quite nice. Unfortunately they discontinued them years ago. Sad

Ameliablue · 22/08/2016 21:56

Sellers are better than caisson but so p

Ameliablue · 22/08/2016 21:57

Settlers are better than gaviscon but still not great. Gaviscon is the work of the devil.

Loubylouchirino · 22/08/2016 21:58

Oh, I LOVE the aniseed flavour but I'm strange. When I was pregnant I had something called Maalox from my GP and loved the taste of that too. I hated the taste of any chewable tablets though. Would rather take a shot of liquid than have to chew the tablets that went strangely slimy & tasted unlike any mint I've ever tasted.

katienana · 22/08/2016 21:59

See your gp and get a prescription. I.had ranitidine and it completely solved the problem. I.Was struggling to eat properly as everything was setting it off! I didn't even go to the surgery just phoned up.

Bigfam · 22/08/2016 21:59

It's discusting but the alternative is worse.
(Pregnancy heartburn) I might switch it up & get the aniseed one next time, bored of the mint one.

BoopTheSnoot · 22/08/2016 21:59

I used to hate the stuff too, but I got used to it after a while. I think the texture of it doesn't help, with it being quite thick. Better than heartburn though, I reckon

JedRambosteen · 22/08/2016 22:04

I used to swig straight from the 500ml bottle towards the end of both of my pregnancies. You get used to the aniseed flavour, but not the texture IME.

Aliveinwanderland · 22/08/2016 22:05

I only get heartburn at night but it wakes me up and then I can't get back to sleep. Driving me potty at the minute!

candykane25 · 22/08/2016 22:07

Worse than gaviscon is the NHS rip off version of it. I had terrible heartburn when pregnant and drank gallons of gaviscon. Then after giving birth I got a sudden attack if it and the midwife give me the cheap knock off - bleugh, it was like slightly melted Kendal mint cake

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 22/08/2016 22:10

It was liquid bloody gold to me that stuff. The pain I was in it tasted wonderful irrespective of what it actually tasted of Grin
