Neighbours throwing cigarette butts into yard

Should I say something? It's not every day (couple of times a week after they've been to the pub) but I'm getting bored of picking up after them. It feels very disrespectful! What should I do?

Definitely say something. So rude of them

GoblinLittleOwl · 22/08/2016 16:36

Pick them up and throw them back.

DollyBarton · 22/08/2016 16:37

Just throw them back! I'm very polite but would do this no problem!

hellsbellsmelons · 22/08/2016 16:39

WTF do smokers think they can just throw their crappy litter everywhere?
It does my head in!
And I say this as a smoker!!!
I'd have a word and I'd be throwing them back over to theirs.

CautionWankingMonkeys · 22/08/2016 16:41

Say something. Neighbour's teenagers took to throwing theirs over the fence into my garden, secretly smoking when their parents were out. I collected them in a bucket and popped round to give them back one Saturday evening. Parents weren't too pleased Grin

dahliasandbiro · 22/08/2016 19:50

Ha! Will do! Was going to throw them back but thought I was being UR!

Definitely throw them back - and if you can tie a bit of rubbish or dog poo to each butt, so much the better Grin

chough · 22/08/2016 20:17

Hope there's nothing in your yard that could set on fire, as presumably, it's lit cigarettes that they are throwing over.

dahliasandbiro · 01/09/2016 12:34

Sorry, missed this. That's a good point re them being alight. One was in our hammock. I had assumed they were stubbing them out, but now you mention it if they don't have an ash tray what would they stub it out on?

Am trying to pluck up the nerve to ask them, don't know why I'm such a wuss in such matters.

Post them through their letterbox.

TheWitTank · 01/09/2016 12:50

Sweep up and deposit on her doorstep.

RachelRagged · 01/09/2016 12:51

I smoke but have an outdoor ashtray with lid
Throw them back OP, the ignorant twats

Mybeardeddragonjustdied2016 · 01/09/2016 12:52

We live next door to a B&B and this happens regularly out the back. We have a very hairy dog and I do worry she will go up in flames one day. We were at the front door seeing oldest dd off and one landed in her handbag still alight!! Dh knocked on the door and told the boss. Now the 'guests' complain our dogs bark!! Yeah coz she is singing 'oh my fecking tail is on fire'!! Collect them up and give them back weekly. Might shame them to see how much they bloody smoke too!!

AppleSetsSail · 01/09/2016 12:53

I'd have difficulty managing a civil conversation if someone were doing the same to me.

insancerre · 01/09/2016 12:58

Chuck them back

Our neighbour at our old house did this. I chucked them back, along with the whiskey bottles we discovered when we got rid of a large ivy plant

Some people are just rude

flanjabelle · 01/09/2016 13:00

Are they squashed at the ends or are they just burnt? If squashed up then they are probably stubbing them out on a wall or the floor etc, if not they are chucking them over alight.

Throw them back over and confront if they don't look stubbed out. Any damage to your property and I would go berserk at them.

dahliasandbiro · 01/09/2016 13:03

I'll have a look at the ends. Will woman to it. Continually amazed me how people find it so damn difficult to be a reasonable neighbour.

Throw them back. If that doesn't work, put them in an envelope and post them back through their front door. Evil, but worked for me.

Paulat2112 · 01/09/2016 13:15

Mount next door neighbors adult child does this. I just throw them back too

Evilstepmum01 · 01/09/2016 13:23

Our neighbours do this too. So we chuck them back over the fence. Along with their cats shit from our lawn.

Vvlgari · 01/09/2016 13:59

Throw them back!

My old upstairs neighbour used to smoke in the communal hallway and throw his butts out of the window. It was vile (and I am a smoker), so I collected them all up and deposited them in a bag on his doorstep. Fortunately, he stopped doing it after that because I'm not sure what my next step would have been. Grin

dahliasandbiro · 01/09/2016 16:19

Thanks for moral support! Now for gumption!

OP posts:
Buzzardbird · 01/09/2016 16:23

I bagged them all up, knocked on their door and asked them to refrain from doing it anymore. It worked.
