garage diddling me.... does anyone know much about garages?

I did a thread before about a garage charging me an hours labour, claimed it was 2.5k repair for a new engine. Another garage said its just a vacuum pump and a lot cheaper.
Original garage didn't give me a paper invoice nor was my car even on their system when I went there just now - I'm going back again to get the invoice

Doesn't a car go on the system before making an invoice? Last time I went to a garage everything was there in the computer .... They had nothing at this garage and thankfully I had all the milage details etc on me

What can I do? Am I right to at least demand my hours labour back? I don't think they even lifted the bonnet

You should report them to your local Trading Standards. However, given what you describe, I am not hopeful that you will get a refund for that hour's labour.

They sound like a bunch of cowboys, but chances of getting your money back is slim I'd say.

Are they a member of the good garage scheme?

Went back and they handed me my money back. Tried to blame my husband but they knew they were wrong. The invoice they printed covered every angle (no mention of a new engine though !) because I told them someone else had found the fault.

I literally can never find an honest garage !
