To ask how much you fill your mooncup

Day 1 of my period today and I've emptied it four times since 9am. 15ml nearly each time. Going by past cycle tomorrow will be the same, then day 3/4 empty 3 times about 7 ml each time. Then day 5/6 will wear a tampon to deal with the end of it.

Does that seem heavy to you? It looks like so much blood.

Do have a copper coil though

Mine will overflow in 2 hours on day 1. [Sad]

That sounds like heaven to me to be honest.

I haven't had a period for about 4 months. Was hoping they were over and done with.

Unfortunately that wasn't to be and I am on day 4 now. Day 1 I over flowed and had to change my undies about 6 times, trousers twice, plus caught it just before it overflowed another 3/4 time. it is literally full to the brim.

I find the first day/day and a half I can only go about 1.5 hours before I have trouble.

Apparently 9/10 women lose less than 80 ml. God knows how they arrive at that figure!

It does look like a lot though. I think because tampons absorb a lot of the fluid it doesn't look as much.

if it is causing you discomfort you should see a doc.

You could always try a bigger cup - the lilycup is larger but not bigger in the sense of girth.

I only fill that maybe halfway if I've worn it all day.

I'm a recent mooncup convert and was quite amazed how little blood there is.

On sanpro/knickers/sheets it looks like loads more.

Where did they get those figures?! I still remember them telling us in sex ed that you lost a "couple of tablespoons". Bollocks

It was a coulel of tablesppons of blood but other fluids make up the rest :(

Honestly? If it was full I would only need to empty it about 4-5 times during my period although for hygiene reasons I obviously empty it more often and it's usually not full!

Day 1 I need to change every 4 hours or so (full - 15 ml).
Day 2 it's every hour at the most (wear a pad with it) - sometimes it's full within 15 minutes of being changed.
Day 3 - 4 it starts being full every 3 hours then drops down to half full every six.
Day 5 - 6 there's never more than a smear in there but if I don't wear it I go through knickers at an astounding rate.

Also got a copper coil.

I have a lunette which is around 30ml and I overflow if I leave it for 2 hours on my first two days. Sometimes it can only last 45 minutes. On days 3-7 it lasts around 3-4 hours and then the last couple of days it's more like 8 hours and it's half full. I hate my periods.

Day 1 full after 3 hours.
Day 2 full and overflowing after an hour. Up 3 or 4 times a night. Might as well move in the the bathroom.
Day 3 ditto
Day 4 empty every 5 or 6 hours.
Day 5 morning and evening.

I remember at school being told that an average period is half an egg cup of blood over its durations. I have egg cup sized clots!

3/4 first 2 days and half day 3, 1/4 day 4 and 5. Ish. So yes it does sound heavy to me in comparison. Everyone's different though.

I got told 'an egg cup full' in school talks - also bollocks!

Few years back filled it 7 times first day. Luckily they are easing off older I get. But yes few teaspoons my ass!

The mooncup B apparently holds more than 28 ml.

If I were young and going through all this I would go to the docs. I always assumed the amount I lost was normal.

I moved to using a Fleur cup for larger capacity 35ml to brim, 29ml to holes, I fill it and leak within 2 hours on my 2 heaviest days. An ultra tampon holds 15-18 ml . I have always been anaemic until a new lovely lovely GP arranged Ferritin infusions 3 times a year. My energy levels are astounding now. I mention this so that those of you with heavy flow consider whether you have anaemia too, google symptoms.

palomb why are you using it if you need to get up 3/4 times a night?? If you're not normally up that often then I think it's absolute madness to do that

I've always been anemic. My ferritin was 9 the last 2 times I've been tested and that's with double dosing spatone.

I think I'm just used to feelings shit so it's normal. Might into investigate the ferritin infusions.

I'd have to get up to change pad wouldn't i! Be easier to just wedge myself in a bucket tbh..

I was afraid to use my mooncup when i had a coil, in case i accidently performed a vacuum extraction of the coil when emptying it. Is this not an issue?!?

And yy to the egg-cup-sized clots. I spoke to the doctor about this who said while it's heavy and they're large, they're normal for people on the copper coil. She did offer to change it for me (to a mirena or some other form of contraception) but I have issues with hormonal contraception so the copper coil is the best for me - despite it's bleeding heh issues.

It's coming out in about 2 months to TTC so we'll see how my "normal" periods are then.

Mine were super heavy. Had a polyp removed but no help. A Mirena is really settling things down but it took about 4 months before things improved at all. Consultant was impressed by my volume calculations - this did prompt them to take things more seriously. If the Mirena hadn't helped I was booked for an ablation.
