To think I replace an en suite for less than 5k?

I need to replace my en suite shower room. It's been badly neglected and isn't worth doing anything else with.

So that's new shower, shower tray, supw34 door, sink and taps, wc and new tiles on the floor and walls.

I was thinking that would come in easily under 5k but I have friends telling me 10k and up

ItS a tiny room, only just fits shower sink and wc.

AIBU to think I can get it done inside a 5k budget?

I had a decent sized bathroom done for 2.5k including luxury ruled, tiling, non slip flooring, 3 piece bathroom suite, taps, custom built toilet/cistern cabinet.

2k tops, your friend is talking rubbish. I refitted and completely tiled bathrooms to earn money to get me through uni. I used to do one a weekend once tiles and fittings were agreed on. I charged £800 all in 20 year ago. Prices haven't gone up that much. Only labour has.

Argh watching with interest. Sitting here with DH discussing how much it will cost to completely do a small bathroom and a small ensuite.

He has just looked at me like I've got three heads when I said we'd do well to come in under 5k each.

I should mention that my DH is incapable of any level of DIY so anything 'we' do ourselves is actually all me

We got ours for about £2k but we bought hardware ourselves and paid plumber to install.

I suppose if you have ridiculously expensive fittings and tiles and live in an area where there is a shortage of fitters so they can charge what they like, it might cost a lot.

It's like those kitchens that start at about £50k. I had a whole extension built for that price, including fancy wow factor kitchen with giant island and shiny cooker hood, I just bought my fittings form normal shops like normal people, not the crazy priced bespoke places.

I think it depends on who get to quote - a bit like kitchens if you go for the 'brands' e.g dolphin, bath store etc they maybe more expensive than getting a local plumber in.

depends how much other work is needed. does it need gutting/tanking?
if yes those are time intensive and thus expensive.

I bought our main bathroom suite from Doble & they were great. I paid £2800 for a huge bath, sink, toilet, glass shower screen, fancy taps & a shower head which was £2200 less than bathroom shops in our area. My tiles for two walls & floor were £700 & someone to fit & tile was £1200.

My downstairs loo I bought from Amazon & cost £240 for a mini toilet & sink which was a lot cheaper than shops.

We wouldn't do big brand - we much prefer to give busiNess to local guys where possible.

we wouldn't try anything ourselves we are both completely useless and would just end up paying someone to fix it anyway

We've just done our main bathroom and ensuite for £5000. We didn't feel as if we were doing it cheaply either.

Get a plumber/tiler to do the work and source as much as you can yourself. Frontline bathrooms, Stokes tiles and BCT are good.

I have just done a lovely bathroom with all new suite, cupboard, floor, large porcelain wall tiles, replastering, new floor and lighting for under £2K. Shop around - I got tiles online. £5-10k is bloody ludicrous money

Yanbu. We did 2 bathrooms for less than 10k. Some years ago admittedly but we spent 10% of our budget on a bespoke shower screen to fit our particular requirements.
Understand your hot water system, try not to alter the layout too much. Avoid Bathstore. Check places like screwfix and plumbcentre.

I've done 2 recently for less than £5K each. Bathstore is good and so are online sites selling end of range. Look out for cheap tiles as well if you want to keep costs down there are bargains to be had if you are prepared to seek them out. The plumber charged about £2k each time but getting plumbers to turn up to estimate, send a written quote & then agree to a date is another issue, I went with the one I used because he was the only one out of about 8 that did. There may be cheaper ones but I failed to find one.

Idea ends on your fittings surely? DH managed to break our shower screen that was in situ when we moved in - turned out we had a designer shower £10k to replace the glass and no accidental damage cover.

We don't have that shower anymore!

Forgot to say, if you go for a company like Dolphin expect a
lot of nonsense. They wanted a friend to sit through a 2hr presentation on her dream bathroom. She sent him packing before he got round to issuing a quote though.

Things tend to get expensive if you use a specialist bathroom company that does absolutely everything for you

We did our family bathroom for about 3K

B&Q/Homebase type fittings/ceramics in sale or special offer. Plain white tiles, beautifully done (put them on the diagonal), decent tiles on the floor. Spend budget on a top class plumber and your water pressure, under £5k I'd say - probably only just.

I'm planning on getting my bathroom done eventually and was hoping not to spend more than 2.5k for all parts and labour. Priced most stuff last night for just under 1k. 10k is terrifying

I got a bathroom fitter/tiler and plumber and bought the bathroom pieces from Victoria Plumb

Got the tiles from B&Q, cheapest range.

You can buy a shower cubicle with the tray plumbing kits etc all in from wickes for about £200, toilet and sink for about £120, you can buy decent enough tiles for about £15 sq mt or you could buy more expensive as its only a small room. then pay a local plumber to fit, tiler to tile, or local handyman type person to do both. Take into account rubbish removal (or take it yourselves to the tip) and extras like tile adhesive, fittings like tap, light fitting, accessories etc you could easily do it under £1000

Oh and a shower! I forget that they start from £60 ish you can still keep it under £1000

Our bathroom I did for £3k with no work done by us except painting. I sourced all the sanitary ware and a local plumber fitted it. If you go for an all in bathroom company with project management it'll cost you but buy the stuff you want and get someone to fit it. Easy.
