That when a small, wet, sandy dog came and stuck its head in my picnic and I pushed it away, its owner immediately called it and apologised.

It's the closest I've ever been to nearly having one of those MN dog situations.

Sounds like a dog owner who doesn't think everyone else loves their dog like they do and is considerate of others.

A few years back after camping over night on a secluded beach we were hanging out around the tent watching the dog walkers. One friend was sparked out on the sand trying to get a few extra winks.

Next thing you know a young springer pup runs up, grabs our garlic bread and trys to jump over sleeping friend. Poor pup is too young and clumsy, lands it's podgy sandy and wet belly right on friends face and then scarpers quick as. Poor friend sat up in shock not having a clue what happened with the rest of us pissing ourselves at his bewildered expression spitting out wet sand. Still cracks me up. God bless that pup!

These things that dogs do e.g. Ruining your picnics are supposed to be adorable guys.
If you don't find it adorable then you might offend the owner!

Oh and owner spent ages chasing pup trying to get the garlic bread back to the whoops and cheers of us and the other dog walkers. They ended up joining us for a brew and a laugh.

I took my dog for a walk on a dog friendly beach. I kept him on an extendable lead. I picked up his poo (which he did away from everyone on the beach). We had a lovely time and went home happy

If it makes you feel any better op, a little white dog (don't know breed but looked kind of like a really small poodle / shi tzu mix?) growled and leapt at me and be owner didn't apologize. She thought it was cute.

I didn't- it scared me (only because I didn't SEE it until it growled and leapt at me, not because either its growl or its leap were particularly fierce) and, being eight months pregnant, jumped back and leaked a little wee. That was unpleasant.

Yes, ginger, although that would only have been fun if owner had been fuming that dog got sand in its eyes.

I was out walking with happydog in open countryside and he had run a bit ahead of me, round a corner and out of sight. I heard some shouting, and started running....

A family had decided to camp in our farmers field, and were cooking their breakfast, happy dog ran right through their picnic blanket and grabbed a sausage off a plate.

I was very apologetic ( sorry OP) and they were very gracious and giggling. MN just isn't what it used to be

My former in laws had a cat which they walked on a lead through the streets of London. Said cat shat liberally on the London pavements. They never picked up the shit - when I asked why, they said 'Because it's a cat, not a dog'. Like cat shit had diplomatic immunity.

Poor Happydog

My dog has not done this for many years, because I have got good at stopping him. But his trick was to go up to picnickers, wag his tail, offer a paw, charm them into a false sense of security and only then dive in head first . Shortly before I tackled him, apologised, offered money / replacement food etc... Sneaky bloody spaniel bugger

He's a reformed character now, but dear god, the terrible shame...

BUT he was very good today, had a lovely swim in the river and retrieved DS's hat every time he lost it, so he has redeeming features!

Having a dog / puppy means having to say you're sorry...again and again and again.

Spudlet I am with you on the terrible shame. Only the ageing process helped to calm our Lab.

That said, I love dogs and can forgive them just about anything.

I would have been fucking mortified if either of my dogs got anywhere near your picnic but chin up - at least the owner apologised. That seems to be a rarity amongst dog owners these days. Hope you enjoyed your picnic without unwanted teeth marks

I made one of those fancy picnic loaves that you see in the cookery pages. The ones where you scoop out the bread from a cottage loaf and layer the inside with things like mozzarella, basil, sundried tomatoes etc. It was to be the star of the beach picnic. Did my da da moment, everyone was suitably impressed. Turned round started to unpack the rest of the picnic then I heard the kids shouting. A SMALL, BROWN, WET SANDY DOG had appeared from nowhere and was humping my cottage loaf. No one was shooing it away, friends were yowling with laughter and DH was trying to take a photo. The owner came over, apologised and offered to reimburse me for the bread. I was gutted.

Could never make it again as my DH refers to it as a dog shagger loaf. He reckons it was a compliment, he can barely finish the word compliment without pissing himself laughing. If it was the same small dog, yoy are lucky he just stuck his face in your picnic.
