about children and barefoot outside?

I know everyone likes a run around barefoot but AIBU to insist DDs 5 & 6 keep their shoes on in public places that might not be particularly safe? EXH couldn't see why it was a problem in local playground next to a pub with bark chippings. If relevant, when one of them gets hurt it is end of the world

My Dd often want to take her shoes off in the local park, its a kind of a sunken ship with slides in sand. I let her once but then noticed some glass and made her put her shoes back on. She often complains about sand in her shoes now. Other people let there kids go shoe-less but I feel better to be safe than sorry in this, you can always tip the sand out but a cut foot takes longer to heal.

YANBU. My ds stood on a wasp. Not a fun day.

Agree in friends /family gardens but not public. It is nice to have grass underfoot!! My friend made her kids wear socks and shoes in their own garden. Brand new house never had a foot or paw in it!!

YANBU. Children running around with their small vulnerable feet exposed in public places makes me wince.

People don't care where they chuck their rubbish and there's all sorts of nasty things around.

Noticed recently where my dog walks sometimes that the machine that cuts the grass also cuts up drink cans, with the result that the grass edges of the pavements are covered in razor sharp bits of metal.

When I was a small child I fell over in long grass and cut my leg on a broken glass bottle, ended up going to hospital for stitches and was left with a very noticeable scar.
