To think this offer was odd?

A few months ago I met a woman whose dd will be going to school with mine come September. The girls had a play and we had a chat. She asked for my number and mentioned that her dd would be having a birthday party in the summer if we could make it. I said "sounds nice, text me the details when you can".

Not seen nor heard from her since (not altogether bothered, lives busy etc).

Had a message from her today to give me the date and time of her dd's party and it's only a few days time. I'm at work that day and both my kids (dd 4 and DS 20mo) would be with their childminder but thanks, and hope it's a lovely party.

She then offered to take both my kids all day. All day. Someone I don't know. Someone whose never met my youngest. Knows nothing about me or the kids.

I'm a bit agog and made a polite decline but felt so uncomfortable and unable to put "errrrrrr no because you are a stranger to us all"

Aibu to think it an incredibly odd suggestion?

To you it's odd. To her, she's probably trying to be helpful and wants the opportunity for both children to get to know eachother before September.

I wouldn't read anything into it. It's not for you, so all you need to say is thanks but you're worried your children might be a bit unsettled as she's new to them.

It would be nice to reply that although the party date doesn't work for you could you all meet up on x date? I agree with Grilled that she's being kind and hoping your girls can start a friendship.

Yeah offer to meet up another time with an actual concrete date or two.

I think it's a really kind offer but she probably didn't really think it through. I agree she wants the girls to start a friendship.

Just say thanks but no thanks, but suggest a meet up on a different date.

Thanks for the thoughts. Agree the underlying reason was probably of striking up a friendship.

I'll message in a few days and see if she fancies a park meet up
