Have I broken some weird FB etiquette?

Boring FB related post.....Not that I particularly give a shit, but I'm curious.

Last night an 'acquaintance' created a FB message group of about 30 people to sell some shite (not forever living type shite). I read what she was selling, was decidedly uninterested and immediately left the group without comment because I really CBA to sit and listen to my phone vibrate and ping whilst 29 other people discuss this shite.
It's also pretty fair to say that my interest in this shite is zero, and quite obviously zero to anyone that knows me.

Minutes after I leave the group acquaintance posts PA status stating how rude it is when people don't reply to you, coupled with obligatory angry smilies.

I try and avoid FB as much as possible because the politics of it drive me mad, but unfortunately I have to have a presence because of some groups I use.

So WIBU to just remove myself or is she just weird?

Scrumptiousbears · 10/08/2016 11:11

I probably would have just turned the notifications off and unfollowed so not to cause offence.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 10/08/2016 11:12

I'd have done the same.

TheGreatDessert · 10/08/2016 11:13

YANBU. I would do the same. Status may not be aimed at you though. Maybe nobody is interested in said aquaintances shite...

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 10/08/2016 11:14

I would have done the same.

I hope you've 'liked' her post.

SistersOfPercy · 10/08/2016 11:16

I hadn't liked the post, though I strangely feel the need to now. Grin

Cuppaand2biscuits · 10/08/2016 11:17

I've left similar groups without comment only to be re added by the person trying to sell their shite. I wouldn't worry.

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 10/08/2016 11:17

Do it, you know you want to Grin

jay55 · 10/08/2016 11:17

I automatically leave any fb group anyone adds me to without asking.

SwedishEdith · 10/08/2016 11:18

I'd have probably turned the notifications off and quietly left the group a few weeks later as I'm a coward. FB is much better if you don't look at it very often.

Queenbean · 10/08/2016 11:20

I leave FB groups people add me too as well

See also: whatsapp groups. No, I don't give a shit about minion memes

weeblueberry · 10/08/2016 11:21

You'll probably find there was about a dozen people who did the same and now she's pissed that she's not managed to con sell to anyone. Grin

Aeroflotgirl · 10/08/2016 11:21

Yanbu I would have done exactly the same. Mabey saying its not my thing, and leave the group.

ABloodyDifficultWoman · 10/08/2016 11:22

I think it's bloody rude to add anyone to a group without their agreement. Isn't that rude? Or is it just me? I'd leave any group that did that to me. OP you could have no end of fun with P/A updates but it's probably best to smile, nod and move on.

SistersOfPercy · 10/08/2016 11:23

It's all bloody politics isn't it?

I just don't like being added to groups randomly, especially ones where the addee' (I made that word up) is just trying to offload shite.

Maybe I'm just getting grumpy in my old age.

YANBU, an acquaintance (who turned out to be a massive attention seeker) set up a 'charity' which comprises mostly of her attention seeking while getting other people to do all the leg work. I must have been 'added' on Facebook at least 5 times before I worked out how to permanently prevent it from happening.

NeedACleverNN · 10/08/2016 11:29

I would have left too. If I got that passive aggressive response I would have either de-friended then it post a passive aggressive reply
"It's such a shame when friends add you to groups you don't want to be in"

notamummy10 · 10/08/2016 11:30

Why would you stay on a group that you have no interest in? I got added to that meal deal talk group, I left within a hour!! I'd do same and I would also like the status!

ClopySow · 10/08/2016 11:31

I leave conversations and groups without a second thought.

PovertyPain · 10/08/2016 11:36

I also think it is extremely rude and arrogant to add someone to a group, without asking. Ignore her,OP. She's a silly twit.

January87 · 10/08/2016 11:36

No you haven't broken any etiquette code! This makes me v angry. I don't want to buy your shit. Do not waste my time trying to sell me it. I leave these group conversations straight away and also if anyone adds me to a selling group I leave straight away too.

giraffesCantReachTheirToes · 10/08/2016 11:38

What do you work as? Start spamming her with stuff.

Look on the bit watch threads on here

i8sum314 · 10/08/2016 11:40

I left a group recently. It was one of those say how many tattoos you have or something. Can't be arsed. I'm as sure as I can be the woman won't care! She's always lovely in person.

This is an example of what makes me cringe on fb, people tagging me in various job adverts that are either miles away, I'm not qualified for, or the agency is already ignoring me. It just advertises that I'm job hunting and having no success and not 'in demand'. It makes me die.

But the friends mean well. So awkward.

Botanicbaby · 10/08/2016 11:45

Oh god I'd hate it if someone added me to a FB Salesy group peddling shite.

Not everyone knows you can turn off notifications and unfollow but tbh I think you did the right thing by leaving the group. YANBU.

Tempting as it is, I'd ignore the PA status she's put up as if you 'like' it you're acknowledging her behaviour & there's nothing worse than being ignored when you're seeking attention Grin (leave her guessing)

AndroidAddict · 10/08/2016 11:58

I've left groups before and I regularly untag myself from those things that are always doing the rounds (I'm a strong woman and here are 5 photos that prove it type bollocks). I too hate it when my phone buzzes and notifies me of a conversation that I have no interest in. I also refuse to post photos just because someone else is a sheep saying I should.

OnionKnight · 10/08/2016 12:11

I'd have left without commenting too.
