To not fall put with my grandma

ThisUsernameIsAvailable · 04/08/2016 00:59

My grandma has left my grandad.

Biologically she isn't my grandma but they've been together since before I was born so she has always been my grandma, she still send us cards, keeps in touch etc, grandad doesn't, it's obvious grandma has always done this, not grandad.

My dad, who doesn't get in with her because she was the OW and grandad who's not takin the split well think I should now cut her out of my life because "she isn't really related to us"

But she is to me and my 4 children Sad

I'd say life is too short, stay in contact if you like her.

ThisUsernameIsAvailable · 04/08/2016 01:06

Thank you Smile

Just going to add that I'm 33 and they have children that are in their 40s so we're together a fairly long time

She's been your grandma your whole life, she doesn't suddenly stop being that does she?

If you want to stop contact because of her behaviour or something she's said, fine, up to you - but not because she's not a biological relative. If that didn't matter before, it doesn't now surely. It's not for anyone else to dictate the terms of your relationship with her, however upset they may be about things themselves. You may have to be discrete about things, but that's about it in my book.

bushtailadventures · 04/08/2016 05:05

She's been there all your life, of course you can keep in touch! My stepmum is the only Granny my kids have now, if her and my Dad split up I would want them to keep in touch. She has always treated them the same as her bio grandchildren and they love her. You can't just switch your feelings off because they are no longer together.

miwelaisjacydo · 04/08/2016 06:05

Completely

Henrysmycat · 04/08/2016 06:06

Agree with Trojan horse.

ClopySow · 04/08/2016 06:07

Oh Donald, wouldn't a wank be more satisfying than trolling?

I think the problem Donald, is that you have no mates, which is why you're still up at 6.20 trolling a mums forum.

Do you need to talk about it? (((((Hugz)))))

So sorry op your thread has been somewhat hijacked. I agree with Trojan.

Donald please go and get a hobby because you clearly need one.

ClopySow · 04/08/2016 06:28

mean

Stick in at school when term starts. You'll get there wee man. I have faith in you.

Nannawifeofbaldr · 04/08/2016 06:28

ThisUsername you are an adult you can have a relationship with anyone you like. It is not your Dad or Granddad's business.

If it's difficult for them, just don't discuss it with them.

EarthboundMisfit · 04/08/2016 06:31

I would keep the relationship going.

Not sure what happened there. Confused

Thankyou everyone Smile
I've tried explaining to dad and grandad but they are too caught up in their own feelings about her to consider anyone else's.
