I've found a great college for my dd but the only problem is its two hours away from home. The train from where we live would involve three changes or she could get the bus to another train satuon. The bus would take about an hour. She would attend college three days a week.

My dd is 18 and has Sen that's why I feel this college is best for her.

Does your dd want to go there as much as you want her to? That journey will be rotten in the depths of winter.

Yes she does she really does not like the local colleges. I've taken her to look at them and spine to course leaders and the learning support team.

If you think that she'll manage the journey, even on cold, horribly wet days and you think they'll offer her the best support in terms of her SENs then I say go for it.

I think your mad and possibility setting her up for failure. That's four hours worth of travelling every day.

I sent my dd to school out of the area and that was an hour travel and after a while she hated it. In the winter she leave in the dark and arrive home in the dark. Be stood at bus stops freezing and if she missed the bus I had to ring round (pre driving days) and find lifts for her otherwise she would get in very late.

When woukd college finish? What is the last bus back from that area? Some buses go to hourly after a certain time so if she misses the bus it could really have a bad knock on effect.

Also if she misses the bus in the morning she is going to miss a large portion of her lesson time.

It very unrealistic to travel two hours each way. I wouldn't drive that for work and def not get the bus.

My brother went to a specialist college 1.5 hours away because it.offered a course he really wanted to do. But he stuck it out. Although said he would never recommend it.

I think the issues are what if she misses a connection etc it starts to get very complicated.

Could she rent a room nearby,?

Have you take her to see the residential side and meet some of the support staff? She might think it's pretty cool if she gets to see it.

My friends DS attends a college over an hour away that caters for SN and the LA (or the collage not sure which) provides transport. Have you looked into whether the college your DC wants to go to might as well?

I doubt our la will give her transport as the other students from our la are residential.
