Reasonable Budget to decorate bedroom

We're moving on the 29th of August, we've already picked up the keys to our new property. The main rooms, kitchen, communal areas have just been decorated, now all that's left are the kids bedrooms.

We have 3 kids, DS1 & DD1 (14) and DS2 (9).

The DCs are keeping their basic furniture, beds, cupboards etc but they've been given a budget to decorate their new rooms, with things like rugs and room accessories.

The budget we allowed was £200 each and now my teens are complaining that things like rugs/curtains shouldn't be in the budget even though they have perfectly decent rugs/curtains that they can keep, I can see that they're winning DH over but surely £200 is enough to decorate a teens room.

That's more than a reasonable budget and will be a good exercise for them in getting value for their money and being careful about what they buy - hopefully they'll treasure it more if they need to eek out every penny and it's not just handed to them in unlimited form. Good luck!

I decorated dds bedroom for £30, got all materials from the range.

Pearlman, they want to get things like light up alphabet letters, fancy pictures, buntings, wallpaper and duvet sets that match, strange lanterns etc and apparently £200 isn't enough to create a decent looking bedroom

Can they not make the bunting and Alphabet letter. Otherwise pretty cheap bunting on eBay. Lots of DIY craft ideas on you tube. School holidays are perfect time for upcycling. Ikea is also great for children's rugs and lanterns

If they're getting their ideas from YouTube or Instagram tell them those people get stuff given to them free!

Where are they shopping? There's nowt wrong with Ikea and Matalan. Nobody needs to pay Urban Outfitters prices.

B&M are good for reasonably priced accessories.

I think that's very generous. Do they have pocket money they can save up for things too?

PNGirl, I think it's more Tumblr and Pinterest that have clouded their heads.

They keep looking at websites with extortionate prices because they want a particular style, DS1 keeps showing me a wooden bulls head for £39 but as a pp said this is a great chance for them to budget and learn.

We have just done all three bedrooms for less than £200 all in.

Dds room is 'insta-perfect' according to her. Yanbu.

I've just redecorated our entire house.
Paint £20-60/room, depending on size and type of paint.
Wallpaper - b and m £1.50 a roll in one room, £20/roll in another.
New curtains - £100. Ouch.
Rugs. Cheapest £5, priciest £200.

I'd say £200 is absolutely fine and very generous. If they want to spend more; they can save their own money or wait for Christmas or whatever.
