To not know the trick for making bold / italics / underline actually work??

What am I doing wrong?? (Of course it will probably work fine once I post and I will look like an idiot, but on preview it is definitely not worked my.)

Aaaaand of course it worked! I guess it's the preview function that's confusing me. Sorry to have wasted your time.

I think I was doing the old [b] stuff before, it's hard to shift. Shame we can't just click on a word and hit a b like on other sites.
