DD (6) had chicken pox in October. These have just come up, is it that again?

I'm not a doctor or a nurse but some people do get chicken pox twice x

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/07/2016 01:30

I had it twice and DD had it after being inoculated.

StephoooH · 24/07/2016 01:33

Does it look like it? When she had it before it didn't look the sane

OP posts:
Flowerbunty · 24/07/2016 01:43

Could it be impetigo?

TheMaddHugger · 24/07/2016 03:09

Flowerbunty might be onto something. It is possible Chicken Pox but could be impetigo.

Get it checked out

It does look like it.

You can definitely get chicken pox more than once. DH had it three times as a child and DD had it twice in the space of 3 months (interesting conversation with the school the second time - they believed me eventually when several other kids came down with it). DS has managed to completely avoid it!

Get it checked with the GP though.

lljkk · 24/07/2016 06:06

Not sure a GP would be available to check, do they make house calls?
What a bummer.

Fairylea · 24/07/2016 06:07

I have had it 4 times. I do have some thyroid problems which lower my immune system a bit but it is definitely possible to get it more than once!

AristotlesTrousers · 24/07/2016 06:13

There's an outside chance it could be hand, foot and mouth? DS2 had it recently and had quite a few spots all over. clutches at straws

But if the initial symptoms the same as when she had it before, OP, then you're probably right. Hope your DD feels better soon.

Gizlotsmum · 24/07/2016 06:33

It does look like it and can have it more than once. Maybe take that photo to a pharmacy and they can confirm.

scaryteacher · 24/07/2016 08:49

Ds had it 4 times.

confuugled1 · 24/07/2016 09:16

From memory it's something like 5-10% of the population will get chickenpox more than once. Some might just get it twice while others may get it several times.

If you do get it twice then it's worth considering that you become part of the group that can get it more than once so to try to stay clear of others that have it if possible in the same way you might if you haven't had it. (I know some people are happy to let their kids play with someone who has CP if they've already had it thinking they will be safe).

It's one of those things - because the large majority of those who have had CP won't get it again, an urban myth has sprung up that it's impossible to catch it twice when actually there's a small but reasonable risk of it happening.

I think ( but can't guarantee my memory!) that 5-10% of those vaccinated will go on to catch CP again suggesting that there's a small group of people who don't develop a resistance to CP.

Could also be contagium molluscum... Better get it checked out to be on the safe side.
