To get a 2nd opinion on DD's broken arm?

DD is 16, she broke her arm. She was put in a plaster, the one that is hard on one side and soft on the other, was told to make a fracture clinic appointment (which we have done, it's for 7 days time, which we were told is when she'd get a proper cast). I showed my DFriend the XRay pic for her to say that it doesn't seem like it has been set properly, is this true? Or is this what fracture clinic will then deal with?? Any advice please!!

Forgot to say I'm worried about the angle the bone has been left in.

they will set it at the clinic. They have put a half cast on as a temp measure in case arm swells.

That's what I'm thinking... I thought a and e did the setting, does fracture clinic do it then?

No, that's the one after they set it and put it in the cast

If it is, then I'd say the fracture is not properly reduced at all, and you need to take your dd back to the hospital asap. Have you been given a phone number to talk directly to the hospital - to the Fracture clinic or A&E? If you have, I would ring it and ask advice. If you haven't, I would take your dd back to A&E and ask for the orthopaedic surgeons to see her again.

However, they will have taken an x-Ray before and after reducing the fracture, and this one could be the former, not the latter.

Cross post - if it is the post-reduction film, I would not say it is properly reduced. I am not an orthopaedic surgeon, but I used to be a theatre nurse, and that looks like an unreduced fracture to me.

The backslab (half cast) is just to immobilise it until the swelling goes down and they can cast it fully. You can't fully cast a swollen arm immediately post injury.

If you're worried and she's in a lot of pain you could phone A&E and ask their advice, they may suggest reviewing in Fracture Clinic sooner than 7 days.

They only put her in a cast once, and this XRay has the cast, so this is the after one. They took an X-ray, set it and in plaster took XRay again, this is that one

MN took so long to post I missed your later posts. If this is a post-casting X-ray then I would suggest phoning them as it doesn't look very aligned

I agree with Sidge and SDTGis. Doesn't look reduced to me either.
Ring the fracture clinic or A+E for an earlier review.
Is DD in a lot of pain?

Lest look properly reduced to me. If that was my one of my children I would be on the phone to the fracture clinic and ask one of the senior orthopods to clarify if this can safely wait for a week.

If you can't get anywhere then use PALS. Don't leave it for a week or she may well need surgery.

I'd go get a second opinion.

This is a back slab which is correct to keep the fracture stable. But this needs to be more inline than this I would ask for it to be re done or ask to speak to the Ortho team while in a&e xx
