To be annoyed with virgin media

Rang to cancel my Virgin Media service as we no longer require it. It's in my name only and has been for over 6 years.

They want to speak to my husband first to make certain we don't want it anymore.

WTAF?!

How did they know that you've got a Husband?

This certainly isn't a Standard Policy.

Phone back and insist on canceling it.

I said I wanted to cancel as we are moving and we don't use the TV package and the Internet is slow. They said they'll check my usage and that it shows we do use the Internet a lot, so I said "yeah my husband goes on ps4 games online and we use netflix". So he said he wanted to check with my husband that we did actually want to cancel it and he would discuss deals with him. Refused to order the cancellation procedure.

I'm the bloody "technical" one in this house.

That is outrageous!! Call back and speak to someone else and tell them you are cancelling. Speak to next one up the management line if you have to: in your name, you cancel.

same here, when I ring them they ask whose name the account is in, and when I tell them dh's name they say ok, then talk to me....but it cant be in his name, I do all the bloody money stuff in this house, he doesnt even go out with his wallet!

They're so rude! Glad I'm cancelling.

Maybe this little lady needs her husband to set her Internet connection up. Haha. He would be scratching his head. Thought times like these were over. Stupid man.

This really is rude, why would they want to speak to your husband if it's in your name? They are being really unreasonable!

I am angry for you. Call them back and advise you are giving them the 30 day cancellation notice, your direct debit has been cancelled and to send the final bill to you.
Discussing your account with your husband (if his name is not on) is a breach of data protection!
Non of there business how you use the Internet!
I had the same problem with them. They are horrid.

Yet if the tv/ internet is down and my DH is working late they won't accept my call as its in his name....

It sounds like the person you spoke to was just trying to delay you so they dont have to be the one to record the cancellation as it affects their commission. If you do ring back mention that you feel the first one you spoke to fobbed you off for that reason. Theyre not supposed to do that. He probably realised that you were definately going to cancel and werent going to accept any deals so came up with a nonsense reason to delay so the next person you speak to gets the cancellations against their names and not him. Its a huge no no.

YABU. You, as a woman, can't be expected to worry your pretty little head about all this complicated technology, of course you must put your husband on. What were you even thinking ringing up in the first place and trying to make this decision by yourself? You're just wasting the important virgin media mans' time. It's really rather thoughtless of you OP.
