My small blonde tousle-haired boy has told lies to a lot of people and made many promises that he can't keep. Unfortunately, people believed what he was saying, and as a result, he has caused a lot of damage that will cost much time and money to put right.

Am I right in thinking this is a teachable moment?

Should I insist that he confesses that he was lying and that he apologizes to the people he has let down, and make him take responsibility for his actions?

Or should we allow him to say nothing and try to muddle through as if he had done nothing wrong?

(He is 52)
