not really AIBU but posting for traffic.

Landed back from abroad early Friday morning. During landing, had the usual ear pressure but worse, and I'd even say, a little painful in my right ear. Ever since it does this weird flutter/pulse type thing. Think as if a butterfly is flapping it's wings. Ears have fully popped but this is weird. Not constant either.

Anyone have any clue what this is or should I visit a Dr?

I get this sometimes so I know what you are describing, I'm deaf and wear two hearing aids so odd things happen to my ears sometimes. However the fact that you have a bit of pain may indicate something else is amiss, I think I would definitely speak to a pharmacist/Dr if I were in your shoes.

There's another thread I saw today about a similar condition but the thread had named it. I only glanced at it so can't remember the details fully but I'm sure it had "something tinnitus" in the title. Try a search- the condition sounded similar to yours, might be helpful.

My ears are often a bit funny after a flight, like there is air blocked in my eustachian tube somewhere. It usually disperses after a while. Drinking water helps (not sure if it is the swallowing action or the hydration aspect though!).

Thanks for the suggestions. Ive tried the usual (yawning, swallowing etc) but no joy. Will give that thread a search plimsolls Have had clicky ears after a flight for a day or so but never this sensation. I keep thinking is my eardrum flapping around in there somewhere

I've had similar before. I suffer from tinnitus and crackling in my ears and I've got a bad habit of popping my ears constantly. Doctor told me one of my eardrums was over stretched. I had to wait ages for a ent referral to get that astounding diagnosis . Unless it's still painful now I'd see how it goes. It'll probably pass I reckon.

Thanks for the reassurance. I guess as I cant see in my ear, and the recent flying, it's just got me a little concerned. I'll give it a few more days. It's not painful, just annoying!

my next prebookable appt is 6th July user146582352 Otherwise it's call at 8am and hope to get an appointment. No harm in asking if others have suffered from anything similar and whether it's worth a trip to the GP or will it go.

Could you get a sooner appointment with one of the practice nurses? They usually have a lot of experience looking in people's ears, so would be just as good as a GP in seeing if there's anything odd going one.

Last couple of times I've flown I've had terrible problems with my ears, it's like someone is sticking a sharp knitting needle into them :(

On the other hand it might not even be to do with the flight, I've had what you've described when I've been stressed.

I've had something similar before but not due to flying, the practice nurse had a look and recommend a decongestant for a couple of days which sorted it out for me.

WildHeart YY to knitting needles. One flight I was in tears it was so sore. YY to also being stressed lol. walk in clinic is about an hour from me.

I might just grin and bare it for a few more days and see how I do. I had a funny turn on decongestants before Rosco so avoid now if I can but thanks for the advice.
