Sorry but you've absolutely no reason to be even remotely offended or think this is cuntish....

dollylucy · 27/06/2016 13:18

??
You're annoyed because she hasn't sold her house?

PaulAnkaTheDog · 27/06/2016 13:22

Ummmmm. What;?!?

Tworingsandamicrowave · 27/06/2016 13:29

Not sure why you're quite so upset with this. It's just one person's opinion, which she is perfectly entitled to. If this is all you have to worry about, lucky you!

Dawndonnaagain · 27/06/2016 13:30

Not really sure why you're upset, and I'm local.

38cody · 27/06/2016 13:34

Don't get your wrath - are you...Jealous?

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 27/06/2016 13:35

It's such a boring article. Woman doesn't visit Southwold as often as she used to Confused

Are you struggling to buy a house in Southwold and that's why you're upset?

She could rent a car for the trip if she hates the train that much Hmm

BillSykesDog · 27/06/2016 13:36

I can understand your frustration, wealthy second (and in this case third) homers do cause problems for affordability for locals, so to say the place is now rubbish is a bit of a slap of a face on top of that.

But remember you're on Mumsnet. Home of people who think they're socialists but have collections of buy to lets, think unaffordable housing is brilliant because they're coining it in from it and see nothing wrong with second or third homes when some people have nothing. C'est la vie on Mumsnet.

TanTanNubuck · 27/06/2016 13:37

That isn't a clickable link for me. Google to the article shows that it was published on 20 Feb. Is that the correct date?

PaulAnkaTheDog · 27/06/2016 13:37

But to call it cuntish is a bit strong!

Dawndonnaagain · 27/06/2016 13:38

Southwold has never been affordable to locals, we go a little further out.

plimsolls · 27/06/2016 13:38

I can't get that link to work. I used to hate her Guardian Family column....

SisterMoonshine · 27/06/2016 13:41

Ah not seen a Julie Myerson thread in a long while.

ZansForCans · 27/06/2016 13:42

God what a non-article. And it's not really a shocking turn-up for the books that JM is a bit selfish and tactless. Like writing an angsty novel about an unoccupied cottage and bleating on that she can't be arsed with her 3rd home!

Merrylegs · 27/06/2016 13:46

Can't click on the link, but nice to see the Lowestoft Journal name checked on here. It'll be the Beccles and Bungay next and from there it's just a geographical side-step to the EDP.

MitzyLeFrouf · 27/06/2016 13:47

I wonder how Julie Myerson's poor son is doing these days.

Dawndonnaagain · 27/06/2016 13:54

So tempted to nip out for a Beccles and Bungay Merry! Grin

Letmehaveausername · 27/06/2016 13:54

BillSykes actually, I'm on very low income and live in a LA flat with no prospects to buy in my area in the future because most homes around here are buy to let's owned by people who don't live here. And I still think it's absolutely nothing to be offended about...

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 27/06/2016 13:59

Isn't Southwold in Upstairs Downstairs?

TanTanNubuck · 27/06/2016 14:16

Raptor Grin

'Cuntish' is a tad over the top, OP. YABU.

ssd · 27/06/2016 14:20

YABU. Practically every other house in Southwold is a second home, so freeing up Julie Myerson's won't make the problem go away. Southwold will probably never be affordable for most of us. A shame, but what can you do?

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 27/06/2016 17:33

I don't own one house, let alone a second one. I have big problems with unaffordable housing and have campaigned locally for more affordable housing. I just thought that "cuntish" was a bit extreme.

We come to Southwold for holidays quite frequently, in fact we will be there next month. We usually rent a cottage for the week. It's quite hard to know what to do for the best ethically. While we are there we will support local businesses and avoid Tesco etc. But obviously the house we are renting could be someone's home instead.

I don't mean this sarcastically, at all. Would you rather that there were fewer tourists? Or just that they stayed in hotels rather than houses?

Or is just empty second homes that are the problem? My old employers had a second home. I find the idea odd, to be honest. It seems a huge waste to have a house sitting empty for most of the year just so they could stay there occasionally. And you still need to pack all your clothes and stuff to take with you, so it doesn't really seem to be that different from renting a house.
