to remove any FB friends who share Britain First posts?

I have a friend who keeps sharing rubbish from Britain First. I respect that people can do as they please on their Facebook page but I get irrationally angry when I see any of this bile.

Am I right to delete them?

YANBU.

Delete or if you are worried it will cause difficulty in RL, unfollow.

Passmethecrisps · 26/06/2016 21:20

Of course you are. I see my Facebook feed as my little kingdom. It is my kingdom - not a democracy. If I don't like what you say I don't need to see it so I hide, block and unfriend with a free will

edwinbear · 26/06/2016 21:21

I've unfollowed anyone posting long rambling, political, monologues. I may follow them again once the hysteria has died down and they get off their soap boxes.

Passmethecrisps · 26/06/2016 21:21

Family I tend to hide so it doesn't cause an issue for my parents (which is ridiculous in itself)

PolaroidsFromTheBeyond · 26/06/2016 21:22

It's your FB, you can do whatever you want. I am swift and merciless with this kind of thing on FB. Piss me off and it's bye bye.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/06/2016 21:23

I think the problem with Britain First is that they write posts that at first glance are all about good things (support our brave armed forces, lets condemn the scumbags that mugged lovely old Doris, that sort of thing) that, being charitable, many people don't realise the evil behind them, hidden in in tiny writing.

Well that's what I hope the reasoning is when I see someone sharing a Britain First post, that they are a bit dim and naive, rather than a nasty racist, because I am really surprised at some of the people that share that stuff. Maybe it is better to challenge them before deleting them - ask them if they realise they area sharing racist crap, maybe they aren't aware .

MyBreadIsEggy · 26/06/2016 21:23

YADNBU!!!
I've already done it.
Just for persepective: my mum is Polish, my dad is British - my sister and I were born in Poland, but we've lived here since I was 5. There are members of my dad's family (some of my aunts, uncles, cousins, my own grandparents!) that still share those kind of xenophobic posts, and spout that shit and bile out loud....it's as if they forget I'm there Hmm and then when I challenge them on it, I'm usually met with: "but you're not those kind of immigrants" Hmm

Birdsgottafly · 26/06/2016 21:26

I tend to gently challenge, or even worse, quote the facts, to point out the ridiculousness of the post.

nancy75 · 26/06/2016 21:26

Not Britain first but just a ridiculous, a person on my Facebook has a link for a petition urging boris Johnson to lock sadiq Khan in the Tower of London and charge him with treason and heresey. 10 thousand people have signed it! What the bloody hell is going on?

RestlessTraveller · 26/06/2016 21:29

During the last election I put a status on my FB that said "I do not entertain the BNP or UKIP at my door and I will not entertain Britain First on my FB page. You will be unfriended." I carried it through and still do so today.

mrsfuzzy · 26/06/2016 21:30

you won't be a loss to them if you are so judgy tbh, it wouldn't bother me if i was on fb.

Creatureofthenight · 26/06/2016 21:31

I'd unfriend them in real life too.

FuzzyWizard · 26/06/2016 21:34

This used to bother me so I selected the option to not see any posts from Britain First. Now I have no idea who may or may not share their bollocks because I don't see it.

gunting · 26/06/2016 21:52

They have been culled. I know most of the posts are just seemingly harmless 'patriotic' stuff that appeals to the lowest common denominator but the obsession with Muslims and threatening Sadiq Khan with direct militant action is too much for me. They make my skin crawl.

OP posts:
RestlessTraveller · 26/06/2016 21:54

I admit I am very judgey about racists mrsfuzzy, as I believe we should all be.

KayTee87 · 26/06/2016 21:56

I have, so no you're not unreasonable coz I'm never unreasonable Wink

MyBreadIsEggy · 26/06/2016 21:57

^^

What RestlessTrraveller said 👌🏻

ilovesooty · 26/06/2016 21:58

Yes I think most decent people would object to racism too.

OutsiderInTheGarden · 26/06/2016 22:01

Good on you OP! I did this a while back. No room for racist fuckwits in my life. My brother's girlfriend does not talk to me anymore because I kept telling her how offensive, ignorant and ill-informed the material she was sharing on FB was. She's czech and my other SIL is a Turkish muslim. So what did she expect? For a while I kept sharing the spoof FB posts from Britain Furst with all the closet racists in my friends list, but they obviously weren't bright enough to get the hint. They have all since been culled.

Passmethecrisps · 26/06/2016 22:04

I also have a cull every year round about the orange marches. I am perfectly comfortable with being judgey of that

MrHannahSnell · 26/06/2016 22:04

Just remember OP they'll be the Govt. come October.

gunting · 26/06/2016 22:07

Outsider I don't blame you. I can't be arsed to argue with each and every one of them. You can't argue with stupid.

Hannah I bloody well hope not!!

OP posts:
WellDoYaPunks · 26/06/2016 22:11

Not at all, I've done it twice recently. But then they're playground mum friends not old friends, if one of my old friends started sharing Britain first crap, never mind fb I'd have them sectioned

Sunsetplumset · 26/06/2016 23:18

yanbu

Heatherplant · 26/06/2016 23:31

It depends on the content really. Britain First are click bait experts and people get caught out by 'share if you are against dog fighting' 'share if you're proud to wear a poppy'. If it's the racist stuff they come out with then get unfriending/un following but if you know the person in RL and it's the click bait stuff tell them it's linked to Britain First as you may find they're bloody mortified and had no idea.
