To be going to a concert by myself?

I booked a ticket for Tom Jones months ago. My friend didn't want to go, but I'd always wanted to see the old crooner. It's in the outdoors (Forest Live) and although the car park opens at 5pm, Sir Jones doesn't perform until 9pm. What am I going to do with 4 hours of boredom?
Have any of you gone alone?

I've been to concerts on my own but it's not as much fun as going with someone, I have to admit.

I often go to concerts on my own as most of my friends don't share my excellent music taste - and aren't as dedicated in travelling far and wide to see gigs.

Some people will arrive at 5pm to try to get right to the front or to an optimum spot, some will check what time the support acts are on and aim to get there around that time. If you aren't bothered about that, just aim to get there 8.30 ish. If you are one of the early birds, you'll probably end up chatting to other fans anyway.

I once got tickets and my sis couldn't make it the tickets went to waste. I wish I'd had the guys to go alone. YANBU to do it. Have fun!

I have been to many a gig on my own and enjoyed them all... Don't forget you have a very important thing in common with everyone else there - you like the artist, so you have something to chat about.

I went to a gig on my own a massive band playing under a pseudonym with only 400 people (unheard of as they normally play massive venues!). We only got one ticket and my husband said I could go (love him so much)! Got there early, made friends with a lady in the queue, got on the rail with her and her Dad and had the most epic evening. Sad that hubby didn't get there, but it was amazing (actually one of the best times I've seen them!).

Go, chat with people around you, start with Sir Tom, its a great opener, and you'll make friends in no time :)

I've been to quite a few concerts on my own, even flying to the US for my absolute favourite band. As others have said, you don't have to be there as soon as the doors open unless you want to be at the front.

Been to many a gig by myself. I disagree with it being less fun by yourself. I used to hate going with friends who were only half interesting in going. It ruined it for me.

Go early. Be friendly.

I recently saw Springsteen by myself. I'd been quietly dreading going. I got talking to two guys in the queue and they took me under their wing for the evening. I am secretly glad DH didn't want to go, but don't tell him that! I had a complete riot!

YANBU, I enjoy going to gigs alone if it's someone DH/friends aren't really into. I can get down the front and have a good time instead of hovering at the back/side with them. There's always a common interest with others at the show as well so you can always find someone to talk to in the queue and between bands.

I did Download on my own. That's a whole weekend!

I think I probably did enjoy it more on my own as I wasn't having to take other people into account when deciding which band to see next, etc.

Yanbu I do it all the time. I make friends when I'm there.
