AIBU to change baby's name?

I ned my 3-month-old daughter a slightly unique name which also happens to be the same as a high end lingerie store (Myla). I like the sound of the name but I'm worried other people will think of knickers and plastic (Mylar).

I'm considering changing it to Eira (pronounced eye-rah). The meaning is snow in Welsh and is also a Norse goddess of medicine.

What do you prefer and would. Be unreasonable to change her name?

I like the name you chose. It didn't make me think of knickers or plastic.
YWNBU to change it, but you can't change the birth certificate so when she is older and has to provide identification she will need to show birth certificate and proof of new name.

I've never heard of Myla but then I get my pants lingerie from Asda! If that's the only reason to change it then I don't think you need to. However, I love Eira. Wish I'd thought of that for my DC! If you are going to change the name now is a good time as your baby will be unaware.

fatandold · 16/06/2016 13:22

Myla is beautiful. I've never heard of this lingerie line and expect most others haven't either.

The other name is lovely, but......you/she will spend all your time correcting people's spelling and pronunciation of it. It will be aura, eyra, ira, aira .... whether written or said. Myla does what it says on the tin ifkwim

tibbawyrots · 16/06/2016 13:25

Myla is a pretty name Smile

blueskyinmarch · 16/06/2016 13:27

I like Myla as a name and have never heard of the underwear brand. Dont change it.

JudgeLionelNutmeg · 16/06/2016 13:27

Yes I like Myla and have never heard of Myla the lingerie shop. Keep her name!

Crunchymum · 16/06/2016 13:31

Whilst I am not massively keen on Myla, at least she wont have any prononciation issues!!

She'll forever have to tell people how to pronounce her name if you go with the other option?

AnnaMarlowe · 16/06/2016 13:35

Myla is pretty and I too had never hear of the brand. I wouldn't have thought of Mylar either.

Your other option is also nice but I don't see the need to change really.

5madthings · 16/06/2016 13:37

I know a five year old Myla, I just associate the name with her, never thought about the underwear brand.

It's a lovely name.

Flossiesmummy · 16/06/2016 14:12

It's fine, stick with it I say!

Myla is a beautiful name, I have no associations with that name, and if I'd heard it before I would have considered using it Smile

frikadela01 · 16/06/2016 14:17

Myla is a gorgeous name, I'd stick with that. I've never heard of the lingerie line so wouldn't worry about that.

Vixster99 · 16/06/2016 14:22

I think its fine:)

You CAN change the birth certificate (England/Wales: not sure if this also applies to Scotland) but you need to do it within 12 months of the birth.

LouBlue1507 · 16/06/2016 14:27

Eira (Welsh for snow) is not pronounced eye-rah. The 'eye' is pronounced as the letter 'a'.

Dexterjamesmummy · 16/06/2016 14:42

I used to be a lingerie designer so I do think of the knickers and other things sold by the brand. It is a nice name though x

CurlyBlueberry · 16/06/2016 14:46

I have heard of Myla the lingerie, but I do also think it's a pretty name and I wouldn't think it was odd or anything. I vote to keep Myla.

2016Hopeful · 16/06/2016 14:55

I like the name Myla and have never heard of the lingerie brand. It is a pretty name and while being unusual is easy to pronounce.

Princesspinkgirl · 16/06/2016 15:01

If I'm having a girl I'm calling her caya I like your first option of names very pretty

cosmicglittergirl · 16/06/2016 15:03

I have heard of the store, but it doesn't occur to me when someone has that name if you see what I mean. My DD1 has a name that is also a noun, but I don't think it occurs to people.

FireTruckOhFireTruck · 16/06/2016 15:49

Myla is a lovely name, it didn't make me thing of any lingerie brands.

limon · 16/06/2016 16:16

yanbu . However Eira isn't pronounced eye-rs. its pronounced ey-ra. (same a sound as in pain or rain)

LouBlue1507 · 16/06/2016 16:25

limon You explained it much better than me! Blush
