to tell them to drop it

Yesterday morning my little boy got hold of a washing tablet at my pil's house, pure accident as they are usually up on a high shelf but on this occasion for what ever reason hadn't been, my fil is blaming mil for not putting them in usual place, my mil is blaming DH and fil for not closing the door.

Would I be totally out of order to tell them all to drop it, as my DS is fine and we can just learn a lesson from this.

I feel bad enough without them all ripping into each other

YANBU you don't mention what your dh thinks so i assume he's on the same page as you? If you,as his parents are nit that bothered (well you are,but can see it was an accident and everything is fine) what's the point in them trying to blame everyone and cause arguments? It happened,with no bad consequences,you can all learn from it and move on.

P.s. Maybe a chat with them that you are not blaming anyone and everything is fine might stop it? They might be worried abt your reaction and possibly cut contact down,or only under strict rules etc so neither of them wants to feel responsible if you were to react this way?

Surely it will all blow over now, OP - with everyone being more vigilant from now on?

YANBU - just say to them that they need to stop playing the blame game as nothing happened THIS TIME - but now they know how easily something COULD have gone wrong, hopefully they will BOTH be more vigilant from hereon in, to avoid it EVER happening again.

Thanks guys, had a chat with all concerned. This time we have been very very lucky so hoping they will let it go and I have learnt an important lesson. Appreciate the fact no one said bad mum too!
