We live outside the U.K. My mum and sister adore our kids. I know we're dead lucky. We get limited holidays because of work and this summer can make it back for 10 days. We're staying with mum and dad and I have organised to go to see very dear, old friends who I haven't seen all year, for 2 nights and they want to see us and our kids. Mum has just emailed me to say I'm letting her and my sister down because we're taking this kids away for 2 nights. But I feel like I should be able to divide my time and have some flexibility to see other people (who don't live in my parents' town). Am i being selfish? I feel very cross I'm not able to move around more freely.

Not selfish imo. It's only 2 nights.
