Recently diagnosed with pcos. On clomid but appears not to be working
Aibu to stop this? Im not going through years of fruitless trying and destroy myself

I'm sorry you're having a tough time. Have you visited the conception boards? There are some lovely posters there and a lot of experience of long term TTC.
I myself have always said if I couldn't conceive I wouldn't put myself through hell trying, however I have a child now so it's easy for me to say that.
A friend of mine conceived on clomid after 6 months - it didn't work straight away.

How recent is recent? Clomid can take time to work. And what do you feel is an old parent?

Its not my age dh is 38
He will likely be 40 if we have a child. I have older parents and dont like it

I don't think 40 is old to be a dad at all. If anything it is a good thing. I'm sorry you are feeling down and I hope you can start to feel better soon. Best of luck xx

It might be easier to make that decision now rather than when you get further into the infertility merrygoround. How would your DH feel if you made that decision? He's not really old to be a father.

Oh, it sounds like you're maybe having some depression as a result of your fertility issues? It's so common. It took us over 4 years to conceive DS and I actually found the first few cycles the hardest. Are you not ovulating on Clomid yet? How many cycles?

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 17 years old after a while we ttc without any help for 6 years. I was finally referred to a specialist who prescribed clomid for me at 35 years old. I took it for 3 months and conceived on the third cycle, I had my DS when I was 36 and DH was 40 a few months after DS was born.

I asked my specialist about tracking ovulation and he said that I shouldn't bother with opk, I think that PCOS hormone levels make them less reliable, so I wouldn't assume that it hasn't worked on the basis of your opk. I wasn't even monitored when I took clomid, just told to go back and see him if I didn't fall pregnant when the tablets had run out.

I remember feeling how you did, honestly the three months I took clomid were the most stressful if my life. I told my husband that he could leave and find someone who could give him children, which he assured me he didn't want to do. The stress during this time can really mess with your head.

If clomid doesn't work at the strength you are taking now they can increase the dose a few times to see if that can work. I think there are other drugs that they can give you alongside clomid too which can help. I really hope it works out for you

Clomid plus metformin can be more effective with PCOS. Check with your specialist before you give up on Clomid.

Also, 40 is not like it was when your parents were 40, 40 isn't old at all nowadays. Both DD1 and DD2 have friends whose parents are at least 10-15 years older than me, and no-one bats an eyelid.

After one cycle? Are you having serious side effects from the Clomid? You may not even be on the right dose. Unless you are sure you can accept not having children, this is very early to be considering giving up and offering your DH a divorce.

OP, you sound like you're panicking, it can take at least 2 or 3 months to regulate a persons cycle with clomid, most people get at least 6 months worth because it can take time. And my uncle had his first at 40 and second at 42 and is a wonderful parent.
