Staying at PIL for a few days on 'holiday' -helliday-. It goes like this....I hold DD age 4 months for half an hour. I need a break when my arm ka dropping off so pass to dh. Dh has excuse of his mum so passes to her. She immediately cries so immediately back to.....me! I've already told Dh to stop doing it so.... Aibu??!

Get a sling for your DH to wear, and hide in the bathroom.

Can you say you need some fresh air and go out for a walk by yourself? Perhaps end up in Waitrose and have a sit down and mn with a free coffee?

I vote for disappearing until dd needs feeding (if breastfeeding).

You do need a break to stop yourself going totally bonkers, and kids survive a bit of crying.
And if anything like my two - cry for a bit then realise it's not working and either played happily or went to sleep when with someone else.

Give her back to DH, disappear into the bathroom out to a nice café with a newspaper or a good book. ALONE.

What would you do at home? Is it that you don't want to speak up and get dh to hold her?

Agree with PPs. Make sure DH and MIL see you breastfeeding for a good long session and comment, "oh my DD you've had loads, look at it running down your chin, it's a wonder you don't pop" so they can't do the hopeful "I think she's hungry" foist off on you, then hand her back to DH (his responsibility even if he immediately abdicates it back to his mum) then bugger off where they can't find you.

Ok. I did literally breastfeed to regurgitation point but it is always "oh she wants her mummy". Yes, quite, but sometimes mummy needs two fecking minutes off! So glad I insisted on bringing the bumbo, or I wouldn't get to wee!! He has this deluded idea that his mum loves holding her but is just not true! She has a bad shoulder and dd is already 7kg!!

Explain in front of DH to MIL that you're trying to get her used to being settled for longer periods with people who aren't mummy, starting with daddy, and sympathise with her sore shoulder while you hand DD back to DH. If he claims to be "busy" doing "stuff" then bring DD in the sling to watch daddy doing stuff. Then when he stops, hand her over and off you go to make your own important phonecalls (real or invented)
