FFS - Neighbours and garden fires.

I'm at breaking point with our fucking neighbours. Every bastard night for the past 10 evenings they've had a bonfire - consisting of massive bits of wood that are too wet to burn So smoke our house out.

The prevailing wind comes over our garden, we can't open our windows at the back and it's getting too hot in DDs room setting her excema itching off.

I've tried speaking to them but apparently they 'love a burn up'. I wouldn't mind occasional fires but can't see the need to do it every night. We live in a smoke free zone, and I'm at a loss on what to do with these twats.

DH thinks I'm being hormonal (pregnant), so now I can't figure out if IBU?

The key thing you've said is you live in a smoke free zone. Have you had a chat with anyone from the Council yet?

Smoke free zone , the rules are on your side. Call env health / council / whoever is responsible for dealing with is.

Mine have done this at midday. Count yourself lucky!

I thought only smoke coming out of a chimney counted in smoke free zones.

But bonfires are usually covered under antisocial stuff amd I think they care about frequency

Didn't think of the council, will ring them in the morning. I wouldn't mind the occasional fire - twice its been still going overnight / smoking in the mornings and our conservatory is full of the smell in the mornings.

I just don't get the appeal of it at all.

so bonfires are allowed but see below for advice. our neighbours do this - i call the council and they say they will send someone out tomorrow (er...). I have kept a log and take photos but the council couldn't care less. I hope yours cares more!!

Complain about a neighbour’s bonfire
Your council can issue an ‘abatement notice’ if a neighbour’s bonfire is causing a nuisance. A bonfire must happen frequently to be considered a nuisance.

Your neighbour can be fined up to £5,000 if they don’t stick to the notice.
