Trainers fell apart within three months, holes in the heels and inner soles falling out. They're insisting this is completely normal. I'm insisting it's not and there's no way they are fit for the purpose of exercising. It's a reasonable expectation that trainers last 400 miles, not 150.

How can it be legal to sell shit faulty goods like this?

ARGHHH I'M SO ANNOYED!

As far as I'm concerned, everyone should boycott SD. It's just shit

Absentmindedwoman · 31/05/2016 15:40

I know this now!

Would the issue not be with the company of whatever brand the trainer is?

yaaasqueen · 31/05/2016 15:47

What brand are the trainers ?

Radiatorvalves · 31/05/2016 15:48

Quote the Sale of Goods Act at them. Specifically the sections about "fit for purpose".

I returned a bust football to SD recently. Popped within 24 hours of purchase. No issues (surprisingly) although I did have a receipt.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 31/05/2016 15:49

Their returns policy is truly shit.

Mummyme1987 · 31/05/2016 15:50

As it's within 6 months the law is clear, they have refund. Consumer law is on your side. They don't have a leg to stand on.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 31/05/2016 15:56

Given that they are owned by the massive twat who also owns Newcastle Utd, nothing surprises me about Sports Direct.

MrsJayy · 31/05/2016 16:01

I hate SD its nasty and smelly but its where i took the dds for traimers for years i think you need to cut your loses if it was 3 weeks i would say yes keep at them but not 3 months they will go on about reasonable wear and tear etc. A lot of the stock is seconds anyway

MrsJayy · 31/05/2016 16:02

Trainers

19lottie82 · 31/05/2016 16:05

How much were the trainers?

A "quality pair" of purpose made running shoes should last 500 miles, and they would cost, say a minimum of £80? If you bought £25 trainers for running in from SD, well, you get what you pay for, unfortunately.

19lottie82 · 31/05/2016 16:05

MummyMe what law are you referring to?

WriteforFun1 · 31/05/2016 16:07

I think we need more info on the type of trainer
I agree a decent pair of running shoes should do a lot better.

Witchend · 31/05/2016 16:09

I don't expect ny trainers to last much more than 3 months because I get cheaper ones. I play tennis 1-2 times a week and 3 month wear is quite average. If I got proper tennis shoes I'd expect to get more wear out of them.

nancy75 · 31/05/2016 16:12

Mummyme, the 6 month thing is not true, fit for purpose does need to take into account how much the trainers have been worn in that time and what the op was doing. If she paid £7.50 for them and ran a marathon everyday for 3 months would you think the shop should refund the money? Obviously that is an extreme example but without knowing more facts we can't really know what the shop should/shouldn't do

HappiestMummyAlive · 31/05/2016 16:13

It really depends on what brand trainers and how much you paid for them.

You get what you pay for unfortunately.

emmalimesmom · 31/05/2016 16:15

they wont refund you they will exchange it or give you a credit note so you have to have more crap from there.
had 2 coats from there and the zips broke on both of them

Had a pair of new balances from SD for over a year they're still like new

Lurkedforever1 · 31/05/2016 16:18

In addition to the price it also depends on what they are marketed as. If they're trainers marketed as fashion shoes, as many are, you can't complain if they aren't fit for exercise.

letthefundusbegin · 31/05/2016 16:21

Sports Direct is one of the grimmest shopping experiences around.

Everything DP ever bought from there was shit quality. Not worth the apparent 'savings', given you have to replace everything.

Oh and given that Mike Ashley is a massive massive twat, we no longer shop there.

ghostyslovesheep · 31/05/2016 16:22

I buy my trainers from SD - they have been great - I run 3 times a week and they lasted - well they are still going after a year but I got a new pair in the sale

But it's difficult to say if YABU if they have been worn every day - maybe 3 months is their life span - worn once you would not be unreasonable

ghostyslovesheep · 31/05/2016 16:23
  • sorry they are cheap ones - last pair cost £19!
yaaasqueen · 31/05/2016 16:24

If you are talking about these www.sportsdirect.com/slazenger-canvas-pump-jnr-00-055056?colcode=05505621

Then you shouldn't expect them to last more than a couple of wears

If they're sketchers or vans or new balance then YANBU

Pipbin · 31/05/2016 16:25

I cannot stand SD but there are no other options here. DH wanted to buy some running clothes but that seemed beyond them.
