Aibu to buy this couch?

I have found a couch that i love and that i want to buy. Ive moved twice before i moved into my current house and in all that time my furniture has been 2nd hand, ive nothing at all against 2nd hand things they have been a godsend.
However i would like to get a new one as ive never had a new one before and it would be nice to.
I got told iwbu from my sisters as it would be on a 4yr interest free payment plan which would be 41 a month which i can afford now i would however not be able to afford the cost as a lump sum. Plus it is more than half price just now which is a great saving.
Aibu to buy this couch and not listen to my sisters?

Couches and sofas are ALWAYS half price! Don't you watch TV??

I paid £2,400 for a sofa 18 years ago - it is still the most valued (and comfortable) thing I own. Everything else is still handmedown - for which I am grateful and the kids get to eat, walk and play with the dog on those but my 18 year old EXPENSIVE sofa is revered!! Go for it!

The one i want is the dfs helix corner couch that turns into a sofa bed and the matching cuddle chair. The couch is usually 2598 and its 1298 for now so id be saving 1300 on that and the chair is half price at 629. Oh i think im going to order it sod them

We bought a sofa (admittedly a lot less money) when we bought first house 10 yrs ago which we still have - as you get older you realise there are expensive things which are worth buying as a long-term purchase.

That said, don't get sucked in by 'discount' prices- but if it seems a good buy for the money in comparison to elsewhere, enjoy it :-)

Have you sat on them? Make sure they really are comfy if you are spending that much and buy the long guarantee.
I've bought two new couches in my whole marriage (a very long time) I ended up disappointed both times. I prefer really good quality used if I can find it. But sometimes sitting on lawn furniture in the house gets old while waiting for that great couch to turn up at the charity shop or online selling pages.

Im going to go to dfs either tomorrow but most likely friday as ds has water babies tomorrow afternoon

If you love them they will be worth every penny

I would make sure that the quality is good enough that it will still look good in 4 years time and that the style is one that you will still like in 4 years time. otherwise it's up to you not your sister. I would also say that that is a pretty big sofa - do you have a big living room?

Yeah my living room is pretty big so it would look okay

make sure you do have a sit down on them - when we were looking (15 yrs ago) we found there were loads that looked nice, but were uncomfortable, and vice versa

but really move away from the idea it is half price, its not half price its not a saving at all

DFS is usually pretty shoddy quality, don't get tied into a finance deal with them...the sofa might not last past the credit deal! Go somewhere like Marks, Loaf, The Sofa Company, Laura Ashley etc etc.

My DFS sofa was widely recognised by all my friends as the most comfy sofa EVER. Regret every day I sit on one that cost double those from DFS and is nowhere near as good. Oh and it lasted a good ten years and was in perfect condition when we skipped it.

I am not you, nor are your sisters. If you can foresee not moving, being happy with it for the next 4 years and being happy paying £41 per month for 4 years then YABU.

I disagree my last dds sofa lasted ten plus years, and two babies/toddlers. Apart from having the shape of my bum in one seat (which is most emphatically Not A Bad Thing ) it was still in great shape when I got rid and I feel guilty now!

If you can put a wee bit of a deposit down it brings your monthly payments down. I think they might usually look for about £300. My new couch I'm paying up too as although this time I'm better off and could pay it in one go it's no advantage as it would still cost the same. But you do need to think what happens if your income goes down - like all credit.

yanbu I have had 2 lots of DFS sofas - first lot where gifted to a mate and are still going strong - I've found them to be good quality and nicely made

The credit is interest free so it's just paying it off bit by bit - I don't notice it really

We've had our dfs sofa 8 years, everyone says it's still very new looking and comfy, and we're looking at buying a new one from there for our next house when we move. We did the interest free credit option and would do that again too. Would strongly recommend paying the extra for scotch guarding.

I'm on my second sofa from dfs and quality is absolutely fine. I have a cuddle chair and it's the best thing ever, so comfy and I can fit in it with both DCs. Just make sure they can definitely fit the sofa in your house though, any stairs, awkward corners etc. I ended up with a delivery nightmare, and the thing is going to have to go out in pieces when we eventually get rid

I wont be moving from the house im in as im truely settled and happy here. I will go see the couch to do the comfort test and see how it does

We bought our sofa from DFS four years ago and have just finished paying for it. It's comfy, looks good and the service we've had from DFS (a few leather touch ups and a repair following a homework related incident with acrylic paint) has been absolutely exceptional unlike that of Harveys who we wouldn't touch again with a barge pole!

If it's interest free and you love it - go for it. I had 2 sofas from DFS and they were fine.

I have had my dfs leather suite for around 14 years and it is fine. interest free credit was the only way I could afford my first new suite. Go for it if you have thoroughly tested it out and you love it. Not sure what it has to do with your sister.

I think it a really stupid thing to do. All our couches have always been second hand. We could afford to buy cash. Latest was £80 amazing quality from our local recycling council shop. I suspect it was from an elderly person that passed away.
£41 a month could be spent in much better use if you can't afford it outright don't buy it.

I dont have a big chunk of spare money that i can buy not just this couch any couch outright. Interest free credit is like plymouth the only way i can afford it and the monthly payments i can manage. Like i said in my op all 5 of my couches have been second hand and ive been very grateful for them but i would like a new one that i got myself for a change
