I had a (ok i admit he was very pushy putting leaflets through my door and following them up) cleaner to my house to clean my carpets and also the windows a month ago. A one off as we were thinking of putting our house on the market. We agreed £15 for him to do the windows. We never discussed it being a regular thing as my DH tends to do it to finish off a days gardening.

Today i got a slip through saying 'windows cleaned'. I was a bit and sent him a Facebook message and turns out he 'didn't realise' it was a one off, saw that the windows were dirty and there was no for sale sign so he cleaned them again. Might i add that he did the front and not the back as the side gate was locked. He's now expecting the money.....

Is this is thing or AIBU?

I have to say I said 'sorry, we never did discuss it being more than a one off' and he said 'well i didn't realise that!! you need to pay me though'

My old window cleaner did that.
He's now an ex window cleaner.

Pay him for half a job that you didnt even ask for?? No chance.

Cheeky but i'd just pay him the 7,50 and tell him no to come again, and that he might want to re-think this approach as you would find it hard to recommend him now. If you can be arsed with that bit.

I would pay him to "put the matter to bed". I would add a note on Facebook (and keep a screen shot as proof in case of future problems) saying not to clean the windows again.

I don't like getting into arguments with people, particularly with people who are (almost) strangers and know where you live. That's not to say I just pay for anything to make the problems go away, it's just that in this case, he has done a job so it does appear bad not to pay him. I do see that in reality he did a job you didn't want or ask for and he probably did this in full knowledge just to try and get money out of you.

I'd pay him 3.75 and tell him to do one. He did half a job you never asked for so as a gesture of good will you will split it with him and give him 3.75 but tell him you can now see why he has to be pushy and to never come back. Very cheeky!
