To think morning means before 12 noon????

We have a car which is at the end of the lease and is due to be collected today. Email confirming collection clearly states AM collection. Phone call from company yesterday, man clearly said "in the morning".

Phone call today says they'll be with me around 1 to 1.30. AIBU in flying off the handle and saying 1 or 1.30 is NOT morning?? Plans have had to change because of this (only going out for lunch but still) and this is just the last in a long line of niggles with this bunch of numpties.

(Disclaimer: I know, first world problems)

I count until about 1-2 as am. I know it isn't really, but first half of the day vs second half of the day. Also I'm on those always late people who should be hung in public and flogged so...

Morning means before 12 noon in my book. I would definitely say 'but I was told a morning collection'. Surely they can't then argue that 1.30 is the morning? Funny how it's the small things that are the most annoying!

I suppose I'd mean before one in a work situation.

I think it depends what time you have lunch. Anything pre lunch is morning by default. But I often don't have lunch til 1 or 2.

Yes "morning" does have a flexible meaning depending on where you are in the world. In Spain it means before 2pm and afternoon is 2pm until around 8pm.

But AM isn't a flexible term.

Still cross as I've had to cancel my lunch out. Husband telling me not to go apeshit at the poor driver who pitches up to collect the car as it's not his fault he works for a bunch of amateurs.

When it comes to booking am pm appointments it's usually anything up until 1pm for an am appointment. I trust nobody though so wouldn't have made lunch plans on that basis because nobody ever turns up on time.

The company are so crap and so tightfisted that they expect a driver to drop a car off one one side of the country, then get THE BUS to the next customer. Not a train or a lift in another car. So we are relying on him finding his way into the city where I live, then another bus out to the suburbs, then walking to the house. So professional.

Suffice to say we won't be dealing with them again! And once the car has gone I'll be slagging them off on social media to anyone who will listen.

Unfortunately they might mean 'morning shift' which could be say 6 am to 2 pm.

But chances are that the driver is a subcontractor who they pay a sum of money to to move cars around and they sort their own travel out.

You know those guys you see hitching near major roads with trade plates - that's what they do. The cheaper their travel, ie hitching or bus, the more they get paid.

12.00pm - 11.59 pm. Afternoon and evening.

How can any one say 1pm is morning ?

I'm guessing that in terms of their staff, the morning shift is still on until mid afternoon so if it was in the task list of the morning shift staff then it could get done any time before the shift ends at 2 or 3pm?

But If I booked a delivery or collection for "morning" I would also plan for before midday so YANBU

If you wanted to go out early and be back for when the car was being collected, they would have said that he would be there between 8 and 10 so you would have lost your chance to go out early.

Because you want him to come early so you can go out for lunch afterwards, he isn't coming until midday/early afternoon.

I am with you OP, definitely morning. And 12.01pm is afternoon, or it was when I was at school. But not the driver's fault, poor guy. Shame about your lunch though 💐

YABU. Standard billable working day here is 8 hours. Therefore morning is 9-1.

yes I know. But there's a fine line between cutting costs and pissing off customers so much over this and other things that they'll never use you again and tell everyone else not to use you either.

I can't complain as it's husband's car and not in my name (although i'm a named driver on the insurance) so any time I phone to ask about booking it in for a service or to tell them it needs a new tyre they say they can't discuss it with me and need to speak to him.

If it said morning then it could be up to 1 or 2 I would think-pre lunch iyswim.

If it actually says a.m though..

Tell them you'll be in all MORNING for them, and if they are not there in time to finish the handover process by the end of morning, ie 12 noon then they will have to wait till you get back from your appointment.

They don't need to know what the appointment is.
They are taking the pee, and frankly if he is arriving by bus and expecting to drive back then wait for you is exactly what he will have to do.

Morning is definitely until 12 and no later, no margin for error YANBU!
