DD is starting school in September. I've been looking on the school's uniform provider. There's cardigans/jumpers/sweat jackets all with the logo on, etc.

Just wondering what do you pick? Do you go for the logo ones... Don't want to pick something that she will be the only one in her year wearing!

I buy plain polo tops and pinafores (tesco/m+s/Asda) and have 2 or 3 cardigans logo'd at a local embroiderers. She wears the gingham dresses in the summer so logo'd tops would be pointless.

Dd just wears generic m&s stuff but has a couple of school cardis with logos on. She likes them and most of the kids wear them but I think they're overpriced polyester crap!

Depends on the school. Have a look at their website and see what all the children are wearing in the photos?

Can you visit casually, hang around at pick up/drop off time to see what others are wearing? Do you know parents of any other pupils whom you could ask. You are right to wonder. At my dds' village primary, the uniform regs are interpreted v. broadly. When my older one started, I made the mistake of buying loads more things with badges than she really needed. I still have a winter coat which neither child has worn.

My friend had this big dilemma... However, in our area there are loads of parent meet ups (organised via Facebook, local softplay, etc) to meet the other parents of kids starting at the school at the same time. Then asked the other parents what they were doing!

Me too. I buy the m+s 100% cotton ones when on offer and have them embroidered instead.

At primary school it was super market trousers and shirts/blouses/polo tops depending on what that dc preferred.
One logoed (is that even a word? ) jumper and polo shirt, 1 plain jumper/cardigan.

I just go to supermarkets. Sainsburys do good gingham dresses, and i stock up on polos and leggings. Skinny black jeans from h&m are a good fit for mines and wash well.

Wouldn't waste money on overpriced logo'd stuff.

Haven't got a choice at our school. Cardigans/jumpers/PE tops have to be logoed. There is a tie and specific school skirt too so the only freedom we have is with blouses.

Our logo polo shirts are navy with logo and are are excellent quality and have lasted all year and handed down whereas my nephew has supermarket own plain white and they only last few months before looking crap

If you have a choice to be able to buy generic, but generic.
The amount of jumpers/cardigans that will disappear into the ether is unreal. I'd rather pay a few quid for it to be lost than £20+ for branded version.

DDs first school was branded EVERYTHING. Even the summer dress had to be a specific one from a specific shop. It was an absolute nightmare and cost us an absolute fortune (£150+ before shoes or PE kit). Girls also HAD to wear dresses, pinafores in winter and summer dresses in summer. No choice for trousers as they were "for boys of course".
I fucking hated that school.

We don't need logos, our school actually reccomends Asda. We have enough for a clean uniform every day and then I just wash the lot on the weekend

depends on school. Look at their uniform policy.

Ours is basically gray/black bottoms, white polos and logo sweatshirt.
But the uniform supplier also sells logo rucksack, logo polos, logo pe bags.They embroidered them to order, so you can have logo anything.

Not necessary, and expensive. Compare a pack of white polos from supermarket to the logo white polos.

I always buy generic polo shires - much cheaper.

With regard to buying logo sweatshirts/cardis etc, go and scope out the school at kicking out time and see what the other kids are wearing. At DDs first primary, few children wore the logo sweatshirt with most opting for cheaper alternatives from Tesco, M&S etc. At her current primary, the vast majority of kids wear the logo sweatshirt or cardi. DD doesn't like being the odd one out, so I have always purchased the logo ones for her.

DDs school periodically has second hand uniform sales so it might be worth asking if yours does as well. DD2 starts school in September and I recently picked by 4 logo cardigans for £3 each in their sale. At that price it's not a problem if they get covered in paint.

We also do sweaters with the logo on, but everything else (dresses, polo shirts) is generic.
In the short term, her jumpers frequently wander but they've always turned up after a week or so. The one thing that has never surfaced was a lovely thick fleecy cardigan without a logo on. Still a bit bitter about that...!!
