Do I tell her that it stinks?

Ok, my newly single friend has Asked me to set up a double date with my partner and his mate. This may sound awful but her breath absolutely stinks to high heaven. I'm worried that the date won't go down well if he cottons on.

But how the hell do put this across to her? Without being obvious like here's a mint.

Tell her. Sometimes you just have to be direct and tell someone something they need to know. Tell her and say you're sorry but you don't want her to be embarrassed by something without having chance to do anything about it. It'll be an excruciating conversation but you can come back here and tell us all about it afterwards.

Tell her

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 05/05/2016 22:12

He may not care.

I had a mate who's breath smelled of actual poo and her husband didn't seem to mind.

amarmai · 05/05/2016 22:12

put a piece of gum in your own mouth and while chewing and chatting pass 1 to her- before the bfs arrive.

whatdoIget · 05/05/2016 22:15

You should tell her anyway, date or not. I'd really like to know if my breath stink, wouldn't you?

WhereYouLeftIt · 05/05/2016 22:20

Along the lines of ' Is your health OK? It's just that I can really smell your breath, have you got stomach problems or trouble with your teeth?'

You need to tell her.

MistressoftheYoniverse · 05/05/2016 22:32

Be real...you need to bite the bullet and tell her .... if you like her Hmm Grin

I would really want to know if it was me...

Okkitokkiunga · 05/05/2016 22:32

if she's got halitosis, she probably knows.

AddToBasket · 05/05/2016 22:37

Tell her! Honestly, you'd want to know, right? He might be The One.

Netflixandchill · 05/05/2016 22:37

Omg it's a hard one because if it's death breath a mint won't cut it, you will have to tell her

GrumpyMcGrumpFace · 05/05/2016 22:40

bad breath can be a symptom of illness. Rather than in the context of "he's not going to fancy you smelling like that", could you broach it in a more concerned friend way?

KindDogsTail · 05/05/2016 22:43

I think you should tell her as she could actually have something wrong.
She may need to have it checked by a dentist and a doctor.

acasualobserver · 05/05/2016 22:44

I would not be able to do this even though I know it's what a good friend would do.

Could you borrow a stranger's phone and text her anonymously?

ChicRock · 05/05/2016 22:45

Tell her. If it's that bad then a mint isn't going to help. Something along the lines of "I need to tell you something, it's a difficult thing to say but your breath smells bad and its quite noticeable. Is everything ok health wise? It might be worth a trip to your dentist to get checked out".

fassbendersmistress · 05/05/2016 22:46

Tell her!

I was about to start dating again after a nasty break up some yrs back and my friend pulled me aside and told me my breath smelled and she really didn't want me to get close to guys without me knowing that. I had been very stressed, not eating properly and avoiding the dentist but had no idea the impact this was having. I was so grateful to my friend...much respect to her for being brave enough. I was embarrassed but got over that quick enough. More embarrassing to think blokes would be put off or laughing about me behind my back!!

Pixienott0005 · 05/05/2016 22:47

A mint would probably disintegrate of its that bad. Pack a bottle of listerine.

I'd want to know if it were me, you HAVE to say something. How I really don't know.

notagiraffe · 05/05/2016 22:48

She may know. Lots of things create bad breath that no amount of toothpaste can cure: ulcers, SSRIs. You can clean your teeth four times a day and gargle, but if the source isn't from your mouth, it won't mask the smell for more than a couple of minutes.

Mitfordhons · 05/05/2016 22:49

On the night you say 'Hey, you look fab, excited? Oh did you have something garlicky for lunch? Hold on I've got a mint'

She'll say 'shit, does my breath smell?'

You, 'hmm does a bit, have this mint'.

WeAllHaveWings · 05/05/2016 22:50

Soften it by saying it's something you've noticed recently, but do tell her directly face to face.

KindDogsTail · 05/05/2016 22:58

It sounds as if it's very bad and has a cause that goes beyond anything that would be changed by mints or listerine.

If I were her I'd really want to know.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 05/05/2016 23:04

Or, you wonder if her health's ok because her breath smells 'odd'? Might be better than 'stinks', and take it from there, depending on the reaction...

AerithEarthling · 06/05/2016 00:52

If it smells of rotten egg she probably has tounsil stones
If it is poo it is probably something in the inside

AerithEarthling · 06/05/2016 00:53

But yes you should tell her someone i would want someone to tell me
