Is selfish right?

I just want to read in my own garden, obviously not in silence but I can hear quite loudly two sets of speakers with different music and it sounds horrible!

I'm sure you need to water your borders (or fence, if you have no borders). Make sure you've worked out where the speaker is first, though, so you don't accidentally spray it.

Mid life crisis man a few doors away experimented with a motorbike, a few years ago. It was a bit temperamental so he spent a lot of time fixing it. By fixing it, I meant hitting something with a hammer for a few times, then revving it for a couple of minutes to see if the hammer had worked miracles.

Crap bike moved out when his DP moved in. I love that woman.

Not very helpful. Shouldn't have to. Besides, they block out all of the lovely natural summer day noises.

I agree with you. I end up going inside as I can't concentrate on my book.

I wish the law was much more strict on noise in gardens (and indoors FWIW). Fair enough, the odd mowing of lawns etc but you shouldn't be able to hear someone else's music whilst in your own garden.
People put up with other people's noise all day long at work, on public transport etc. Their home and garden should be their sanctuary.

I think it depends, if someone is playing music because they're having a garden party or something then I'd let it go as it should hopefully be a one off...if it's everyday, I'd be annoyed and do the hose thing.

This depends on the context. I've put on music when I'm working in the garden or sometimes have it on low when I'm reading out there. If my neighbourSamsung were in their gardens too they'd likely hear it but I'd check with them if it's OK. If not it would get turned off. My neighbour ours have their radios on when they're working in the garden though so it would probably never be a problem and we're all respectful of each other.

Hearing music from a room in the house in someone else's garden is too loud.

It would also depend on time. During the day, I'd have no problem with it. Late at night, no thanks.

fine if you live miles from neighbours or on a desert island. Otherwise - buy and use earphones because others don't want to listen to your doofy-doofy crap music. Or any music.

YANBU, if it csn be heard in other people's gardens it's too loud, they should use headphones.

YANBU. We had this from the party neighbour for 5 years. Along with late night parties. We moved.

I have no problem with general garden noise but loud music outside is anti-social, imho.

YANBU our neighbours 2 doors up are buggers for this.

DP and I have had a rare early finish and planned a tidy of the garden and teen next door was revising for her exams in the sun. The twats have had their stereo on, dog barking, mates round having to talk loudly over the music, engine revving since about 2.30, kids on the squeaky trampoline. We have all come in. The saving grace is they go away to rallies most weekends leaving the teenage son on his own- he is less trouble.

It's not bad enough to have a confrontation about, but police have been before..it's a case of pick your battles.

Often I think people don't realise how loud the noise is. If you have neighbours in close proximity it is difficult to enjoy being out in your garden without disturbing your neighbours.

My neighbour has his music that loud (and on repeat) that DP and I can't have a conversation in our garden, every day, each summer.

It drives me insane.
