Hire car today from a certain car rental company.
Stank of cigarette smoke, cigarette burns on the seats and generally filthy.
Was meant to arrive at 11, but it didn't turn up til 5.15.
I have to pay a £1000 excess to any damage to the car.
Aibu not to put my 7 week old baby in this car and complain ?

No, ask for one that no one has pissed themselves in.

Amy214 · 03/05/2016 19:59

It looks disgusting, i wouldnt have my baby in that, i would be calling them and telling them to collect it and also replace it with a better model, i wouldnt be paying £1000 excess for an old musty thing.

MooningIntoTheAbyss · 03/05/2016 20:03

I used to work in car rental and that is genuinely shocking, even to me!!
None of our cars ever went out looking like that!

I would be calling first thing in the morning and saying you want it changed over.

If they quibble just say something on it isn't working properly.

Liv111 · 03/05/2016 20:29

No way! What on earth is that!? I would demand a new one. YANBU at all!

Toffeecrispy · 03/05/2016 20:32

Ew its not even hard to clean that, carpet cleaner will get rid of those stains.
The company obviously dont give a shit about clients

Pipbin · 03/05/2016 20:33

Take to Twitter with the pictures.

SquinkiesRule · 03/05/2016 20:35

Thats disgusting. Rental cars we've had have always been like new inside.

Whosthemummy16 · 03/05/2016 20:41

Thanks for the replies !
Ive put it on their facebook as no Twitter account.
I waited in all day for it to arrive, I will be really cross if I have to wait in all day for them to come take it away tomorrow !

I wouldn't put myself in that, let alone DS! Hope they give you a better one along with a massive apology!

Janefromdowntheroad · 03/05/2016 20:46

Grim

afromom · 03/05/2016 21:46

That is really bad, I have hire cars at least once a week for work, we use 4/5 different companies and they always look brand new. Some have a few scratches on the outside, but inside they are always spotless!
I would call them straight away and tell them you are not happy and want a new one. I would also complain that you lost most of your first day of hire and refuse to pay for the time lost.
If you have to keep that one, make sure you write down all the damage and call them to log it before you use it. They are never bothered handing over cars with some damage, but will be quick to come back to you after its returned and point out any unlisted damage.
I wonder if my good experience is because it's a company booking? Although family hires we've had abroad have always been fairly decent too.

afromom · 03/05/2016 21:48

Also, I just thought - you don't have to stay in for drop off and pick up. For mine they usually put the keys through the letter box on drop off, then I leave them in the gas box to collect.

RaeSkywalker · 03/05/2016 21:51

Urgh! I used hire cars a lot in my last job, I'd expect it to look brand new.

DH and I hired a van a few months ago. It was pristine.

YANBU.
