To wish that people knew speed limits?

I was blocked by traffic on the outside lane today so couldn't go past someone doing 30 in a 70 for a bit. When I did go past, I was thrown evil looks-I hadn't been tailgaiting.

There's an A road I use a lot, no choice, really, and some drivers are convinced it's a 40 and stick to this rigidly for ages. It's a 60, single lane carriageway. AIBU to want to carry a speed sign with 60 on it? The road isn't signed until a certain point where it reduces to 50.

It's assumed drivers know the national speed limits on all roads so the Dept of Transport (or whoever) only signpost the exceptions so, while YANBU it ain't gonna happen.

oh there is a whole section of driving society I named 'The 40MPH gang' - they drive me mad - on a 60 - we we'll do 40 - so you over take

then you get to a 30 - we still want to do 40 so we will overtake you (normally on a bend) or tailgate the fuck out of you - then the road becomes a 60 again - so the fun starts over

Honestly I get mildly irritated by people who do say 50 in a 60 by 30/40 - dangerous and irritating (like you I never tailgate)

Oh and while we are at it - SLIP ROADS - nice long slip roads - there to allow you to A) speed up and join a 70 MPH road at the right speed or b) slow down on ONCE you have left the 70 MPH road

So why do 30 all the way down and then stop at the bottom and dither OR break 3 miles before the exit and do 30

The speed limit on a road is governed by the vehicle you are driving, lots of NSL roads round here seem to average 40mph because of the number of HGVs on them. I wish people would learn to read the white lines on a road.

Only for goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes in Scotland.

YANBU Ex went on a speed awareness course after being caught speeding. Not one person on the course knew Dual Carriageway NSL or single road NSL - massive range of answers.

It's a sign that that person doesn't know the highway code. If they don't know speed limits, why would you think they know braking distances? Surely a good driver would be concerned when they see somebody who doesn't know how to drive.

I had someone today decide 30 on a 30 wasn't fast enough today. Got round me and then tailgate some poor guy all the way through a tunnel. Decided he wasn't going fast enough so tried to undertake, only to get stuck behind the car the other driver was trying to get around. Nearly crashed into that poor guy (doing about 25 in a long stream of traffic). I caught up by the time the speeder wanted to change lanes and just chuckled to myself at him f-Ing and blinding because he couldn't go as fast as he wanted.

That being said, I got stuck behind 2 doing 30 on a 60 last week. I didn't tailgate but soon put my foot down when I could. Drives me bonkers when it's clear and rheumatoid can't drive at the speed limit.

But people would fail their driving test for not making progress if they did 40 in a 60 when road conditions allowed. Why might that be?

(Not that I really care as I live a long way further south and don't drive goods vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes - but still interested)

YANBU. Yesterday I was following a driver whose speed varied between 35 and 50. Compounding this, they were holding an animated conversation, complete with hand gestures turning to face the passenger. After they crossed the white line for the second time, they got five seconds of airhorn and full beam.

BTW, HGV limits are now 50 on singles and 60 on duals and motorways.

It's shocking how many drivers don't seem to understand speed limits and road rules. A couple of weeks ago, me and a load of other drivers were stuck for ages behind someone doing 35mph on an NSL road with double white lines so no-one could even overtake. Selfish and bad driving skills.

And the people who slow down on motorway slip roads belong in a special circle of hell.

The A9 has a trial speed limit of 50mph on the single carriageway sections for HGVs over 7.5 tonnes.

And have you noticed that whenever it's pointed out that slow drivers would fail their driving tests, the "speed limit is not a target" posters never have an answer?!

Guilty as charged, bad conditions I sit in the slow lane behind a lorry quite happy at 55, cos I'm a wuss!
However did everyone know that cars come with little devices called INDICATORS, telepathy just dosnt work!

Sure, the limit is not a target but it's a guide to what is a safe speed (in good driving conditions etc) why would a driver ignore that and drive 25% slower for no reason?
