DS1 'when I'm big I want to go to University'
Me 'oh very good'
DS1 'then I can see you' (I work in a university)
DS1 'and I'm not going to married'
Me 'what are you going to do then'
DS1 'just stay with you'

This won't last forever will it?

No but by the time you've been through the teenage years you'll feel differently

I've just been reading another thread about the good things about having older children, but I am also going to be so sad when DS is embarrassed by me rather than adoring me as he does now!

Oh, I wish mine could stay 5 too, it's such a lovely age!

DS1 (4yo) announced that he was going to work with his dad when he grew up. He doesn't really know what he does, other than it involves boats on occasion, so when I asked him why he said he wanted to ride in his van and be in charge of the radio! I asked him what he thought his younger brother should do, and after some thought he said he should come to work with me so he can be in charge of my car radio!

I know, I can't beleive that in a couple of years DS will be mortified to be seen holding my hand, and his little brother is no help as at age 2 he is already too cool to hold hands with his mummy.

5 year olds are lovely but I do think they get nicer and more interesting as they get older. I'm a much better parent of older kids than I was when they were little.

They still adore you, even if they don't want to hold your hand in public.

Actually, just seeing your username reminds me that there is at least one benefit to them getting a bit older!

DS2 is 5 and is at a lovely age, a little bit batshit mixed with adorable and just needy enough. He gets into our bed each morning, skips to school holding my hand and is just so overjoyed by the world and everything in it. He's a sunny character, though, so I hope it'll stay that way as he gets older.

DS1 is 10 and, at times, it is comparable to living with Diana Ross; he's so diva-like. He actually got dressed for school a few weeks back, got back into his bed, put sunglasses on and lay there til one second before I left the house claiming "I can't do mornings". If he hasn't had three platinum records by the time he's 18 I'm going to demand a replacement child as this one is faulty. But, on the other hand, he's got a wicked sense of humour and can hold a reasoned, well-thought-out argument (mainly about why he wants to do what he would like) and is enormous fun.

I can't decide which age I like most. Probably whichever one is giving me less aggro at any given time. Sometimes it's neither, and then I just open some wine.
