To think the Facebook 'feeling blessed' status should be renamed 'feeling smug'

I know I don't have to go on there but I like it generally for keeping in touch with friends I don't see that much. But why does it turn nice pleasant people into smug idiots? If I read one more 'feeling blessed' status, (usually either about something very mundane that happens to everyone like spending time with your kids or incredibly boasty) I will not be responsible for my actions well I'll probably just moan a lot and post on here.

I dunno. Generally I agree with you. But the other day I used the "feeling blessed" thing after I had my car window smashed in when I was on a night shift at work, and everyone's kindness and that includes local businesses I did feel blessed. I had offers of help, sympathy, free glass replacement from a local business (whom I've never shopped with). So I did feel blessed. That even after such a horrible thing happened, people were so kind ....

So I've a foot in both camps really

I always add feeling blessed, I try to always be positive on there and help lift other people up! I am blessed with 4 children I thought I couldn't have, with food in the fridge and a decent lifestyle. I would rather read "feeling blessed" than all the shit that goes "feeling annoyed" and then the following comments, what's up, inbox me, etc etc etc !!

I try to leave FB for dog and kids pictures. The blessed stuff can make people feel crap

You sound miserable. Why is it up to you to decide what is 'mundane' or not? You must not like your friends and family much if this translates to being smug for you.

This whole 'blessed' thing is terribly silly and has pretty much ruined the word for the vanishingly few blessings on the planet.

You may consider spending time with family and children mundane, but I assure you it means a great deal to me. Five family bereavements in a short period and a complicated custody battle to return my daughter to my care means every single nice time I have with any family is a blessing.

I feel blessed a lot. I've been through a lot. Oddly enough I never feel the need to share that on social media.

I also do not feel the need to tell Facebook how much I love my dc. said dc are told every day though.

The people I know do it have vastly different online and real lives.

One couple constantly posts about the innumerable blessings their family has, how wonderful and constant and calm and happy their children are. In reality, they are violent little bastards who have serious issues. But, hey, as long as they're feeling #blessed.

It's protesting too much, a cover-up - like those people who feel the need to post on Facebook about how much they love their husband, when it would be infinitely easier to say it to his face, if only you didn't secretly hate each other.

Why not? If its your Fb you can post what you like, if other people dont like it they can block you.

Of course you can post whatever you want, isn't that obvious? People will judge you for the content of your FB page, though, and they'll likely conclude that you're annoying and smug if it's endless wittering about how blessed you are.

I too, cannot stand "feeling blessed." Think most of the time it is used out of context - as you say spending a Sunday with kids in the park....

Now if you had just returned home after being in prison in another country and wrongly convicted, beaten cancer, or had a very lucky escape in a severe accident, - and were in the park with your kids - then you would indeed - feel blessed!

But most of the time they mean - grateful for others helping them / or lucky that they didnt get a parking ticket - that is not the same as blessed.....

So much of it every single day - kind of dilutes the meaning IMO

I sometimes do it granted not with my DS as we decided we will not be putting his pics on social media for me it's being grateful for the little things in life e.g. I have been blessed with being able to spend Sunday's with my DP and have a coffee somewhere - it's very rare we get any time together through the week due to work and other priorities but I'm happy we can get at least this one day or a few hours.
I admit sometimes people do it for silly reasons or to show off but I wouldn't put everyone in the same basket...
BTW usually when I see people put that with them doing something nice it gets me motivated to try and be able to do something nice like that too but IDK I guess I just try to stay optimistic.

I'm a fan of using "feeling blessed" after super mundane or unfortunate things
"finally got around to buying milk and now there will be tea again! - feeling blessed"
"Stubbed my bastard toe and think I'm dying - feeling blessed"
