to ask for help sourcing sodding cricket whites!

I am at a complete loss.
I am new to cricket. In fact I know bugger all.
However, I have a 6 year old who is bloody good at sport (he doesn't get that from me!)
So...he has been asked to join local cricket club.

He is starting next week.
Although at this rate he'll be doing so in his pants.
I CANNOT find ANY cricket trousers that will not fall down on him (slim,small/average height).
They are not even close to fitting any part of his bottom or legs (and I know these have to be shortened with webbing).

So please...if you have a child playing U7s cricket, where on earth do you buy their stuff from!! The 'official' club kit people have a 7-8 as smallest and this is massive! They appear to be quite strict on cricket whites only...and I am now disparing.

I have wasted too much time already surfing online suppliers to find the same kit. And even M&S don't start their cricket whites til age 10 just now...

Please help me!

Have you tried Sports Direct, they usually do the smallest size with an elasticated drawstring waist. You'll need to take up even the smallest size unless your child is a giant.

Do they really insist on whites for kwik cricket? I've never seen a team of 7 year olds all in white

Have they said he actually needs whites? Usually for U7s they would just wear sports kits so tracksuit bottoms etc. Whites would only be required for matches.

My 6 yo played hard ball cricket and they do small pads etc online (world cricket store and so on) but he was in age 7-8 clothes so that wasn't a problem as sports direct did them. They may do small whites online?

Hardball at 6? That's very unusual isn't it, due to moving house I was forced to watch cricket in 4 different county leagues and non did hard ball until around 10. Sounds like a recipe for injury Smile

My son is 15 now but is small and skinny and when he was 6 I had the same problem. His club were happy for them to wear tracky bottoms for training and we found whites (for matches) at Sports Direct (or look on ebay - sadly I have just given away all my sons old whites, otherwise you could have had them).....

I'm a cricket coach and wouldn't expect a lad of 6 to have whites for training. He will probably start playing soft ball matches later in the season he might need whites then just ask the coach. Sports direct are OK but they are cheap and nasty really. Google local cricket shop and there should be a good shop local that can advise about kit if he moves into hardball

Sports Direct start at age 5-6. All whites I've ever bought come in one standard ridiculously long length regardless of age (no idea why) so you will need to cut off the excess and wonderweb neatly hem them up.

Soaking in Fairy liquid and/or Vanish spray aids for the inevitable grass stains.

Sorry should have said tracksuit bottoms and trainers are fine for training. He probably wouldn't start hardball for few years yet unless he is very talented and practises loads

M&S now do boys cricket stuff. I've kitted my 2 out from there the last couple of years. Fits well, reasonably priced and good quality.

Yes- It's all white for training. They send a whole list of guidelines on what is expected and what's not allowed... It's club cricket whites or they will 'tolerate' non club whites. Nothing else... Shock

I tried Sports Direct...too big (even the age5-6)
M&S don't have the youngest sizes...gutted! I even contacted customer services...no stock.
I tried the official club outfitter but they only have one style of trousers and they were age 7-8...too big.

Will check out Decathlon...and other cricket outfitters...

Clubs usually have an online supplier for their club clothing. They have I hemnes legs and drawstring waist so just buy the smallest.

However, My boys have been playing cricket for club, district and county since they were 5 (they are now 15&17) and they have never worn whites for any training sessions.

I would contact the club and explain about the lack of availability and problem you are having, I would hope they have a solution (loan or second hand stock ?) or are understanding (that would tell me a lot about whether I thought the club were encouraging juniors!)
Both of mine have played since around that age, and they have whites for matches but not training, I always get trousers from sports direct, but see you have tried there. Also when they first start at the club my DC attend, all children had some free weeks to decide if it's for them, so parents don't go out and get stuff straight away.... It seems very strict to me that they expect juniors to have whites immediately and at all times including training, junior cricket is about learning and fun!

It's hard to source cricket whites if you don't know where to look and I'm amazed any club is strict about it. Where in the Uk are you as there are specialist shops around. I've just given away lots of small whites otherwise I'd have happily passed them on to you.

Definitely ask at the club, ours has a couple of players who work for an independent supplier and can sort out club discounts. Other parents might have some old spares - although going off personal experience one season of the play/wash/scrub cycle is enough to pretty much kill a pair of cricket pants..
Whites for training is nuts! DS has been playing since age 5 and has never trained in whites. They have training kit but it's in nice sensible dark colours!

I would buy the smallest size and take a tuck in each side of the waist.
