to not understand the level of fuss about the Stoke Gifford Parkrun?

I appreciate that, ideally, Parkruns should be free, but can't understand the level of fuss about Stoke Gifford proposing a £1 charge for this. I pay more than that to park my car when I do a parkrun in my town. Football clubs pay to use parks, as do other organisations, and parks really need the money. Well over 100 runners go on 'my' run, and it does increase wear and tear on the ground.

I know that £1 doesn't sound like a lot but if you run as a family it can be up to £5 a week (or even more) and that would definitely put many runners off. I really do think in most instances parkrunners put far more back into the park economy through parking fees and spending money in cafes than they do wrecking pavements! The Government has tried lots of different ways to get us to be more active and this independent venture is by far the most successful one yet - despite all the experts the Government must have hired over the years it was a private person, Paul Sinton-Hewitt, who set the ball rolling, something that still amazes me. I think the Government should pay any parks that feel parkrunners are a cost and not an asset - not the runners themselves who are keeping themselves healthy in the most cost-effective and fun way possible.
