AIBU to think that the disabled loo are not for people to have a private shit!?

I use the disabled loo at work, because I am, well, disabled. I need the bars to help me on and off the pan (TMI??) Every time I go it absolutely reeks, and there's usually someone skipping out quite functional of leg (I know about hidden disabilities, don't worry) My thoughts are that it is used for private shitting purposes, not wanting others to share in the trauma of splashdown.

I'm so sorry....have to admit. I used to do this at work Blush. I couldn't bear to go in a shared loo. Have a public shitting fear I suppose. At school I would hold it all day if I had to until I got home. Some people find it incredibly embarrassing.

I still used disabled now as have a 6m old in a buggy and a toddler and can't use the loo and keep them with me otherwise. I guess that must annoy people too but don't know any other way of keeping an eye on them while I go? Confused

I saw a very well written blog post by a with IBD, who needed a disabled toilet, but had perfectly functioning legs. For all you know someone might be using it because they have a stoma.

I have to use the disabled toilet sometimes however I'm not obviously disabled iyswim.

It could be someone disabled by IBS, Chrohn's disease or something similar. You wouldn't necessarily know who had a hidden disability of this nature.

However, it'd be wrong for someone who didn't need those facilities to use them unnecessarily.

I feel your pain OP. At my work there is one men's and one ladies loo, and the men use the ladies loo (for not reason at all, the men's is right next to it) and half the time it looks like they haven't even bothered to flush. Vom.

YANBU. But on the other hand it's hard to know what might really be going on for other people. My dd has ulcerative colitis. When she needs to poo, she can't wait. If you saw her coming out of the disabled loo in your workplace though, you'd have no idea she had a lifelong bowel condition that entitles her to use the loo if she needs to. She has a key that means she can access disabled loos, but I could well imagine her getting funny looks as her condition has no visible signs. You might be right that your colleagues are using the loo for a private crap. Then again you might be wrong and they have a good reason why they're in there.

YABU. My mil has a stoma she has to empty several times a day and uses the disabled loos as they have a sink in them and are more private that a regular toilet. It stinks to high heaven too sometimes but it can't be helped. You wouldn't know any of this looking at her though.

I have IBS I have a map of town loos in my head, been tutted at for using disabled loos (I have mobility issues too), if my IBS is playing up I go in a few seconds from not knowing I need loo to I NEED TO GO NOW! In addition people might have upset tummies for other reasons and need it urgently.

I'm lactose intolerant and use disabled toilets if I get a dodgy stomach, not only to save my embarrassment but due to the smell. If the after smells are pungent even after the person has left, it does suggests they've got a problem!

I have bowel issues and private toilet issues also to the point that in a shared house at university I often used to drive 5 miles to the public service station even sometimes at 4am as I knew others would be awake/ awake soon. They were beautifully clean toilets and not that busy, admittedly not disabled toilets but I feel like if I felt it was desperate knowing it was bad with my bowel issues I know it's wrong but I think I would use the disabled even though I'm not registered disabled

You don't need to be registered disabled to use the disabled toilets; anyone can use them but the disabled have priority. Unless they've got the radar key then that's another matter!
