To buy the dress?

I've fell in love with a dress I saw in town for dd for our friends wedding. Mil overheard me telling dp about and announces that she'll get her the dress as she didn't buy anything for her when she born.i agreed and was grateful. That was a month ago. Aibu to just go and buy the dress. Mil will be at the wedding so if she doesn't get it and dd wears it she'll know I've brought. Sounds petty but mil isn't the easiest to get on with so wouldn't want to cause unnecessary conflict.

Can't you or your partner contact her to check if she has bought it yet? Just say your going into town and will pick one up if not as you don't want to risk them being sold out.

When did you see it? Couple of weeks ago or yesterday?

themumfairy · 09/04/2016 16:46

Thankyou I'm going Monday to buy it. I really do love it. That's my worry, all the summer things are coming in and I'll be gutted if I miss it. You've Made my mind up.
She hasn't brought it as of last week and I know she won't have any money for another 2 weeks. She's a 'blow my money in a day' kind.

About 6 weeks ago. She said she'd buy it then, then the next time she mentioned it she'd get it her for easter and still nothing

Ah yes, one of them. A person who likes the virtuous feeling they get from offering to get/do something for somebody else - but who never actually bloody gets/does the thing they promised!

Buy the dress. And if she wails at you 'but I was going to get that for you!' just quietly point out that rather obviously, she was but she didn't. Can't be arsed with that type.

And you're not causing unnecessary conflict. MIL is; by making promises that she has no intention of keeping doesn't keep.

Yes one of those. Funnily enough her fags are guaranteed. This isn't the first time and as you can probably tell I'm not her biggest fan. I need to toughen up and not care about what she says
