To want to ban drum kits?

Yes, I'm well aware I'm being unreasonable...

Someone a few doors down recently bought a drum kit, maybe two months ago. They've put it - it sounds like - in the garage, with no sound proofing. They're teaching themselves to play, and it's going on for at least two hours, normally more, pretty much every day. A few times it's gone on until 10pm.

It's driving us around the bend. Today I have a migraine and it's thump thump crashing away.

AIBU to think all drum kits should be banned?

They need to get some practise pads to dampen the noise. Less than £100 . I feel for you, it's horrendous. If asking them to keep it down doesn't bring results thrn try the council's noise abatement team.

YABU to want a total ban but they are BU not to have practice pads (or better yet an electronic kit and headphones).

Well, not completely, but in residential areas anyway. We need drum kits for proper music.

My upstairs neighbours in a flat have one for their 7 year old. Who likes to practice at 7am on a weekend. I wouldn't mind so much if it was a proficient drummer, but its a beginner kid.

Okay, so now WIBU to post a note through their door with that suggestion on?

7am is awful. It's been 8ish here before, but not earlier, thankfully yet.

They can cover the drums with towels to damp the noise. Put some foam in the bass drum. Electronic kits are a good way to go and it's a hard thing to learn but learning to play quietly is a great skill. Can they have a time they can practise eg 10-2 @ weekends or 5-7 at night

Growing up there was a house locally that always had drum noise coming from it. Large Residential area with a play park next to it. We could hear the drums as we played in the park. I a stones throw from the house now and i'm guessing whoever drummed has moved on because we never hear it anymore. I miss it. Good memories of sunny days lying in the park listening to them practise. Must have been hell for neighbours though

My mums new next door neighbour has one. Reckons he's sound proofed the room but when he started playing while I was there the other week I couldn't believe how loud it was! Who moves into a terraced house with a bloody drum kit?!!
To be fair I did go and knock on the door and he was very polite. He gave me his mobile number to give my mum so she can let him know if it disturbs her. She's half deaf so finds it a bit annoying as she can hear the bass but to me it might as well have been in the same room!
