DAY WETTING AT THE END OF MY TEETHER POSTING FOR QUICK ADVICE.

DS is 10, we have had an awful lot 2 month health wise with him. It started with him having trouble going wee with out burning.

We had two lots of different anti bs. They then decided it wasn't a uti .. then he got very very red and saw and was told it was bacteria infection. So we got steroid cream which worked.

But the he started wetting him self uncontrollable during the day. He has no sensation of needing to go he just does. And it can happen up to 5 times in the space of 10 minutes. Big amounts each time.
The wetting has been happening for almost 3 weeks now. He wears Tenna lady's to school to help prevent too much embarrassment but you can imagine how he feels.
He was put on movical to see if it was hard stools causing it but he's going each day and nothing has changed.
Been to the doctors again today and managed to her to refer to hospital though it will take a few weeks. He's wee test have come back clean each time. Even when it was very obvious he had a bacteria infection.

Has any one else delta with this. Am I missing anything I could suggest to doctors.

That sounds dreadful. Is there any other enuresis clinic within reach at all? Or even though older than their usual clientele, see if a HV will talk things through with you.

The only thing I can think of is to treat him a bit like a toddler again and send him to the loo at regular intervals (at least it's about to be the school holidays, so this is rather more possible). Could you get a watch which you could set at hourly alarm to remind him to check his pants?

Have his kidneys been checked?

It really is bless him, he started if with laughing it of but now I fear it's really really got to him, though he is still willing to go out and play he just wants it to stop.

He has been told to go regularly even if he doesn't feel he needs it but yes the holidays should help. In a lot of ways.

I hadn't thought of the clinic but I will Google it, though I can not afford private care it's something I could find a away to do if it meant quicker help.

I come from a medical background and I think it's better to use optifibre than movical as that can lead to a runny feeling and leakage from the back passage so that may be why he's no longer recognising when he needs to go as he may feel wet a lot.

Also I would introduce times to go. Make him wear a watch and explain to the school that he will be going to the bathroom every 2 hours at a set time to try and pee

Eventually he should become dry again. This has worked with lots of the autistic children at my clinic but it does take time and a set routine of peeing every 2hrs then gradually increasing the time between toilet breaks

No all the very don is is dip sticks. They just wanted to carry on with the mavical and to come back next week if no change but I refused to accept that today. So him being referred to hospital is a start.

Ask for a prescription for optifibre instead as this increases the fibre in a child's diet and it's natural and results in harder stools but movical is a bit like taking laxatives long term, children can have lots of leakage from it and then don't know when they need to go.

Has your son been OK behaviour wise? Have the school had any concerns? as this would be classed as regression if he was toilet trained and then stopped knowing when to go

If he goes for regular bathroom breaks then he should gradually start having less accidents

My DS10 has same issue during day but with soiling. Then is wet during night.

He goes to two clinics. One to deal with daytime and the enuresis clinic for nighttime. He's on medications for day and then night.

Get his school on board if they aren't already. I've tried a vibrating watch with some success. At present he has a red disc that he can simply hand to his teacher then run to the toilet. His teacher also sends him with a book to the toilet at the same time in the afternoon.

Another thing is that DS has a bag with changes of clothes and wipes in a toilet. The toilet was converted to help him clean himself up.

I owe a massive amount to the school!!!

He gets the sensation to go like he would normally go. Which he will go toilet. But when he's wet him self there's been no normal warning or feeling he has to go. If that makes sence he does have the sensation sometimes.

Behaviour wise.. nothings changed, if anything things at school have improved and he's happier. (Nothing major was going on but he's making better more positive choices at school) he's has friends at school and has begun to play out with them out side of school.

Home wise he's behaviour is good I wouldn't say he regressed at all. And is quite mature for he's age.

I think it's related to the 'uti' infection but drs have just said no it can't possibly be that.
