Had a huge argument with a cyclist today and thinking about it, maybe i was wrong or was she? Let me know what you think...

Turned into a road which could only fit one car down and some cars were parked on the left, It is a road near my house and i use it often. A cyclist was coming the opposite direction. She was riding as if she was going to go into me, in my opinion she could of went on the pavement to get around me, the pavement is dipped in several places or waited on the side however she choose to ride right up to my car, bang on it and we started arguing.
I said to her she is not a car and she can go around me i cannot go around her because there is no room, she said i should of waited for her to pass.

who was right?

Mrsmorton

Because normally cyclist threads are full of "I will cycle on the pavement as its safer" and I find that amusing.

But as I posted the OP was in the wrong.

What's 'road tax'?

Regardless of wether it's another car, or a bike, scooter, or bloody horse, if you need to cross into their lane then they have priority and you must wait for them to pass before proceeding, therefore you were in the wrong.

No she shouldn't have banged your car, but given that you effectively drove right at her whilst she was observing the highway code; perhaps she was a bit shaken up and acted 'in the moment'. I wouldn't hold thst against her considering!

1 - there's no such thing as 'road tax'

2 - are you for fucking real?

You are in a one ton car. She is on a bike and thus vulnerable. Perhaps she was scared you were going to run her over, and overreacted?

You were totally wrong, by the way. She had priority.

Everyone knows what is meant by this, unless they are terminally stupid.

I agree! Cycling on the pavement is fine when they choose to do it.

The OP was in the wrong though.

I'm curious as to why she needed to name change for this thread though...

If you were turning into a road you wouldn't be able to see what's coming until you'd turned in?

She should have kicked your car. You were very wrong unless there was loads of room for both.

Cyclist think they own the road, they refuse to stop for anyone even traffic lights
Really? Some cyclists are knob-heads, as are some drivers, pedestrians, school kids, buggy pushers, horse riders etc. That's why the highway code states:

The most vulnerable road users are pedestrians, particularly children, older or disabled people, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders. It is important that all road users are aware of The Highway Code and are considerate towards each other. This applies to pedestrians as much as to drivers and riders.

You, its illegal to cycle on the pavements. Something i wish the cyclist know about here. Cyclist shouldnt have banged your car but sounds like you scared her, him.

Waiting for OP to come back and own up:

to be in the wrong.

to not knowing the Highway Code while in charge of a death-dealing machine.

to posting on AIBU before checking the facts that a fule would kno.

I am not holding my breath on this.

Assuming you live somewhere where you drive on the left hand side of the road, you were wrong.

The cars were parked on your side of the road, meaning you had to travel on to her side of the road to pass the cars. You are only allowed do this if there is no oncoming traffic. There was - the cyclist. You should have waited until the road was clear enough for you to drive past safely

Cyclists have to obey the rules of the road the same as cars. It's illegal to cycle on the footpath, and very unreasonable of you to suggest she do so.

Had it been me, and a car was driving at me whilst I was cycling, I too would have thumped your car for you scaring the shit out of me, and trying to force me off the road.

Got out of bed on the nasty side this morning?

jlivingstone I'm not anti-cycling and I'm a firm believer that everybody on the road should abide by traffic rules.
There are some things which make me really mental, such as cyclists with no lights and dark clothing, headphones in their ears, jumping a red light (one of those morons almost hit me and my daughter once as we were crossing the road on green). Otherwise I have a full respect for cyclists and I'm ready to make allowances for them as the more vulnerable participants on the road.
Doesn't matter for this case anyway, because the OP is BU. The cyclist had the right of way and the car should have waited. See no reason why the cyclist should do something such as using the pavement to avoid her.

(Hands hedgehog some chocolate and backs away. Chocolate. Dont worry hedge i have those days too. Yesterday being one and someone started sniffing). Op image that cyclist was a horse, another car, children walking....what would you have done. They were on the road first and you choose to drive into them.

Oooh nice bit of pedantry early in the morning! Presumably we should say CAR tax not ROAD tax.

You were wrong, OP - she had right of way. No harm done and you were good enough to admit you may have been wrong. Onwards!!
