These problems have been bubbling away for a decade but now seems to be getting some exposure.

It's slightly pointless though - they're not related statements. There are many people who made clever property purchase choices over the years that have resulted in wealth now.

I think TB is a war criminal and should be treated as such, but if the Guardian believes that he and his wife have acquired their property/wealth illegally, they should say so. And whether they acquired their wealth legally or illegally, it is not relevant to the story about how difficult it is to afford property for the rest of us.

I'm all for criticising TB, but only where it is pertinent.

Well, they are related in the sense that property speculation and buy-to-let 'empires' as the newspapers like to call them, have contributed to the rise in house prices.

Blair and his wife are a good example, because at the time he was first PM in 1997 they had one nice house in Islington bought many years before as a long-term family home not an investment. Now they have more than one home and several investment places. They demonstrate neatly how times have changed.

I thought the "Blair trigger warning" was obviously a joke. Well, it made me laugh!

icanteven - but TB does have some of the responsibility as he introduced some of the policys that have allowed house prices to spiral out of control. They should of done something about it ages ago. But seeing as a large percentage of BTL people are politions there hasn't been the political will to change it.

Luckily the present government so decent and in touch with the lives of ordinary people hey? Would focus attention on that rather than harking back to the past. Also where is the crime in property invest,ent or am I missing something?
