AIBU to get this checked? (Coil related)

I have had the copper coil since around November last year, now pardon me for being graphic, but I was masturbating last night and I noticed I could feel the strings quite far down, as if they were almost hanging outside me ever so slightly. Today I am having a stomach ache fairly low down, not severe but noticeable. I also noticed last night that I had some, I'm not sure, mucus? On my fingers that was like a reddish brown in colour.

I should get this checked out at the GP shouldn't I. I am thinking of having it removed, has anyone got any experience of the contraceptive injection?

I would definitely get it checked as the strings should not feel like they are hanging down very low. I had a coil and really didn't like it but have no experience of the injection sorry.

You should definitely have it checked, as coils can slip down. If it works for you, though, you could have another (or a mirena) inserted.

I would definitely get that checked by u our gp. Sounds like its in the wrong place. The strings should be right by the cervix.

Yes get it checked and no I don't recommend the injection (lots of bleeding and huge weight gain)

Forgot to mention, I just finished my period 2 days ago.

100% go to the dr, this happened to my IUD but I didn't know it had slipped down. Made it useless as a contraceptive with the predictable consequence.

So if it has slipped down (and something is starting to feel odd down there) will they take it out and put the new one in straight away? But to be honest its a bit off putting cause of this happening, I may just have to deal with hormones again as I really can't use condoms. I had the implant before this and I was having a period every 2 weeks, at least with this thing they were regular. I might just go on to the pill again and have done with it. Thanks for the advice ladies. :)

I had mine taken out and left it out went back to other methods, lost trust in them after it all but "fell out". Remember the pain you are talking about too....kind of like period pain/contractions !!

They can replace it immediately if you want them to, but tell the receptionist you want that in case they need to order one in.

I agree it sounds wrong OP. Get it checked out -- today!! Hate coils!! I went the Mirena route after a similar problem. Mine (Coil) all but worked its way out too, causing me pains and some rather nasty discharge..

I've had the Depo injections which were brilliant, stopped my periods completely. Tho I have had friends who led constantly. I have had the copper coil and currently have the Mirena coil. Neither of them have the threads as low down as you are describing, sounds like something has moved. I'd get to the Dr or family planning office ASAP before you hear the pitter patter of time feet!

Pain coming and going like really mild contractions. I have spoken to my doctors surgery and the doctor who can remove it is done for the morning, so got to call back at 2pm. Hopefully I can just go in this afternoon and have it removed. I'd rather have the hormonal contraception than deal with this, I mean what if I have another one put in and it just happens again?

I had my first removed after it partially dislodged because I'd been on one of those powerplate exercise machines (they say not to use with newly fitted coil but I'd had it years). I had a new one put in and that was fine.
