To think a holiday is more important than sky

Chatting to hubby earlier - I was saying I'd love to save up a bit each month so in a few years we can take the children abroad. We have very little excess money but I'd love to give them an experience and some memories. we holiday in the uk every year (center parcs out of term) but would love my children to experience a holiday abroad in a few years. Hubs is in a strop because he would rather upgrade to sky I q or something - when it comes out - we already fork out for a full sky package for the football and that is enough let alone adding more on the bill. Aibu?

If you go to centre parks you could afford a cheapie abroad instead. But I agree holidays more important than sky.

I don't think so at all. And is Center Parcs not as expensive anyway? Certainly seems to be when we've looked.

I can't afford Centre Parcs though, but we have a holiday abroad each year.

Agree, if you can afford Centrparks, you can totally afford abroad.

But yes, holidays are infinitely preferable to upgrading Sky.

Center Parcs are cheap in term time, we paid £250ish for a 3 bed cabin for 5 days. If you cook at 'home' and don't buy extras you don't need to spend much more.

As for your AIBU, no. Holiday over tv any day of the week but we only have Freeview which some friends of mine can't understand! If yours are still young you can pick up some great deals abroad in term time - we're going to a Holiday Village in may, AI for 11 nights for 4 is just under 2k. Out of interest I priced up the same holiday in august - 5k+!

Depends.

TV could give you extra enjoyment every day. A holiday is just a week.

But a lot of TV packages are not really worth it - unless there's something specific you want to watch then you can get plenty of good TV with just freeview and a Netflix subscription.

If you can afford to go to centre parcs you can afford to go abroad. For certain. Holidays abroad do not need to be expensive at all.

Yanbu - but I reckon you could afford a Ryanair flight and an air bnb in a foreign city anyway, especially if the kids are not school age so you can all share a room.

Self-catering in Centerparcs does not sound like much of a holiday - just cooking and washing up in a different house.

Never ever been able to find a cheap abroad holiday for the same price as a trip in the UK. Maybe it's because we live nowhere near a major airport.

When your children look back on their childhood memories what will they look back on... hours watching football or trips around uk and away ?
Or is the sky watching a shared family experience ?

Sorry it would be Sky for me, comfort every day before holiday.
However, if you already fork out for Sky full package including football then I think IQ is excessive. If you saved the extra that you would spend on that plus what you are spending on centre parcs then this would go a long way towards a nice holiday abroad.

Everyone's different though. I find holidays really stressful and would rather spend my time pottering about at home (family too).

Also, if you have a dog or a cat their care whilst you are away can really add to a holiday. You can ask family or friends to help out for 3/4 days if you are just away for a short UK break but not for a 7 or 14 day holiday abroad.

He's either winding you up or ridiculously selfish! Save up anyway and take the kids and leave him at home with his full sky package (then cancel it before you go so he has to watch freeview for a week!) 😋

I'd rather take the children abroad and make memories with them and give them an experience than upgrade the sky.

Holiday for the entire family versus over priced satellite tv for someone to sit on the couch even more than he probably already does while the other parent entertains the children.

At least that's how I view this kind of prioritising.
